Patagonia Synchilla Snap-T Pullover -

The Patagonia Men's Synchilla Snap-T Pullover is a classic that kind of made fleece cool, and one of those type of fleece jackets you will probably own for like 20 years. The Synchilla is made with a warm and durable double-faced 100% polyester fleece, and has a low-sheared face that helps trap body heat, and resists abrasion so it will last you longer. This Patagonia fleece features spandex trimmed cuffs, and a taped 4-snap Supplex nylon placket that combine to keep in warmth, and the hip length makes it decent for layering when it's super cold out, or to wear alone during the spring or fall. The men's Synchilla fleece weighs in at around 18.7 ounces on average, has a relaxed fit design, and it's so loud in here right now.

Great Fleece

I saw this Synchilla Snap T go on sale so I immediately ordered one. Even though I got mine on sale I would definitely pay the full price for it! I bought the Yanaba Molten Lava color variation and it looks awesome! Totally retro but still hip, that might be an oxymoron though. The collar is great, the pocket is great, the elastic sleeves and waist is also a good touch. However, I would buy a size down from what you normally are. Usually I wear a large, but this large is especially big. I don't really mind that it is a little roomy because it is just better for layering. But if you want to wear it as a primary garment with just a tee underneath I suggest going down a size. I have had on this fleece since it arrived at my house (2-day expedited shipping was totally worth it!). Since I put it on I have sat through classes, been on a walk, fly fished, and just hung out and it has been an invaluable article of clothing. Pair this jacket with the Down Sweater and you have an unbeatable barrier between you and the elements.

A Best Friend till the End

Not only is this product a piece of Patagonia history, it is a recollection of my everyday life – a companion, tried and true. I own the Stonewash w/ Chili Red trim version from FA08. It is sophisticated and stunning. I love the slight tonal aggression that these products display with offset trim colors. The lycra binding along the cuffs and waist really cleans up the garment and puts that extra finishing touch as to why Patagoina clothing is the best. Not too much, not too little. It is just perfect. If I had to choose one piece of Patagonia clothing to wear for the entire "California" winter, this would be it. Looks terrific with jeans, khakis and/or shorts. I even wear it over my wetsuit in those SF OB foggy mornings! The designers and developers did a really good job keeping the fit a real classic - something to swallow you whole and love you all over. I highly recommend this product to anyone - big, small, short, tall, young or old. It will be your best friend till the end.

I thought you guys were outta business forever...

I'm 19 and my father has a sizable collection of Patagonia apparel. Until about five years ago, I thought (with dread) that Patagonia was out of business because me father never purchased anything new from them for as long as I've been around! I know why now: Their products are practically bullet proof. I recently bought my own Snap-T but couldn't resist taking one of my father's to college with me as well. The thing is older than me and still going hard, I wear it almost as much as the new one. Almost no difference between them except the old one has no chest pocket but it's just as soft and warm. If there is one flaw in Patagonia's business model, it's that their products have absolutely no built-in obsolescence. My father reached his critical mass of Patagonia clothing and hasn't bought anything else for at least 20 years - He's an avid sailor, hunter, fisher and general woodsman, if he can't destroy a fleece, no man can. Simple, classic and will definitely survive a nuclear apocalypse. Highly recommended!

One of my favorite fleece garments.

I'm outdoors a lot and generally have a fleece with me either on me or in my bag. I've owned several competitors to this fleece and keep coming back to this one. The "denali" is often too heavy, and expensive. The "tech jacket" is great with it's wind blocker if it's windy but leaves me wanting in the warmth department on cold still mornings. Patagonia's own Marsupial is just the right weight, but I find the zipper gets cold, I can never seem to find the perfect place to leave the zipper, and if you put things in the large pocket it pulls the fleece out away from teh front of your body leaving you chilly. So here I am ordering 2 more Snap-T pullovers to supplement the one I have already owned for 18 years now. Though I almost took away one star b/c they no longer offer the great patterns in the pullovers like they once did!

I own three of the snap-t's and love them. I also own a similar snap by llbean, but I must say, the snap-t outweighs the llbean by far. During the winter, I wear one of my three every day, and I am planning on buying more as I go off to college. Not only are they warm, but they are comfortable as well and can be worn with anything! I also love the color selection. My first snap-t was a large which I found too big (I'm about 5'7" 160lbs) so I gave it to my next three were all mediums and fit perfectly - but were not so small that I couldn't fit an extra layer underneath if needed. Overall perfect fleece...if I had enough money I would buy every color several times over!

I have three

...and it may be enough. This is as influential a piece of clothing as has ever been made. I got my first the first season they were made, when pile (scratchy, drafty) and bunting (the pill-i-est fabric ever) were the only other "fleeces" there were. I got my second not long after; then my's the first thing on when I hit the main floor of my place on winter mornings. I could sleep in it (or on it); hike in it; ski in it; and have. You can, too. It goes on trips anywhere in any season. It may have the greatest effective temperature range of any clothing piece, ever. It's hard to believe that there was once nothing else like this on the market. There still is nothing quite like it.

Fits as expected !

I'm going to have to send this back because it's a "just fits". I listened to the reviews that said it is Huge and it's NOT. (Big mistake) I have to squeeze into it to get it over my shoulders and I'm skinny- 6"3" 160 lb. Ordered large (I'm between a lg. and sometimes Xlg.) and I can "just" get into the lg.! I will reorder in XL and I only wear XL if I want an extra baggy fit. It "just" fits me now and if it shrinks even a little I will have to give it away! The only way I would consider this Huge would be if for some odd reason I wanted a sweater that was skin tight.

Warm & Snuggly

I realized that, living in San Francisco, I needed something warm and versatile. I have definitely found that in this fleece. It's super warm and comfy. What people say about the fit is totally true: it runs very big. I'm usually a Medium and so picked that up but, if I were to buy again, I would go for the Small. The reason I titled this as 'Warm & Snuggly' is because, after a nice long day of work, I like throwing this on and feeling treated. This reminds me of having one of your dad's old big sweatshirts: well-worn and reassuring. Thanks for such a sick product Patagonia!

Looks Good!

I bought the Molten Lava size LG. I always take a size LG, but was a bit worried with some of the reviews saying it basically swallowed them up and to down size.
But I can say this piece drapes very well and Patagonia's sizing is right on the money. My chest is a 44 which is average for a LG. My wife and I have been very impressed with the cut of Patagonia products. If you like the look of having broad shoulders this pullover is for you. Also this pullover allows you freedom of movement. All in all, it's very nice.

Great Classic!

I had one of these for at least 10 years until I unfortunately left it on a train last Spring. Over the years it had been my main winter garment, and I decided that I just could not do without it, so I replaced it recently with exactly the same one, color and all! I find it to be cozy, warm, and universal. In black it can even serve in a dressy situation. It is very roomy and it is easy to fit a sweater underneath, although this is only necessary in the coldest weather. It's easy, funtional, and a bit luxurious.

Negative Reviews:

sizing not consistant with older fleece

I'm a petite female that owns two of these pullovers in size XS. I've worn them for years and felt I was overdue to acquire a new one. I was extremely disappointed to receive a new XS to find that the size is NOT equivalent of my old ones. The shoulders width is the same but it narrows considerably towards the waist. I had trouble getting out of it! When I laid it on top of my older pullovers, there's about two inches difference on either side. That's about four inches smaller!!!!! I must say I'm terribly disappointed as I loved the color combo. I do not like the color choices in the women's pullovers and I wanted the heavier fabric.

Super Baggy

I have ordered two Snap T's in the past and this year's version is extremely baggy. I am 6'3" 180 pounds and the large swallows me alive. I have two larges from a few years ago and they fit fine. This year's sizing is out of whack in comparison to past years. Not even sure if sizing down would be sufficient.
Nnn717 at Patagonia on 12/22/2012

This thing is huge....I'm 5'9" 185 and a large fit me like a tent.. Almost a foot of material across my beer gut, and the shoulders dropped across to my biceps. Otherwise typical Patagucci quality. I was looking forward to washing it and getting it to soften up in the dryer will have to try for a smaller size now.

ThunderBeaver at on 10/12/2011

some interesting colors this year...

I was going to buy another one this year. I was pretty excited when I saw some of the colors, but I couldn't help but notice the $30 price increase. That's no small amount. Good thing these things last so long. I'll pass this year.
John22 at Patagonia on 08/28/2012

My snap t was worn once. The trim along the bottom is already starting to pill. I have been a life long customer and this garment was not up to standards. I am hoping the store will make it right.

Looks like a fleece blanket.

This product will be send back to the store ASAP. Not good looking at all. The ladies one is a fitted shape and was a Christmas favorite.

Didn't purchase as a gift, but I'm going to give it away.

Neutral Reviews:

Very, Very Baggy

I used to LOVE the Snap-T, but this year's version is very, very baggy. I'm 6'0" 145 lbs. and ordered a small. The torso length and sleeve length were both great, but the chest and arms were so loose it was basically unwearable. Even with a heavy sweatshirt underneath it, I had 6-8" of extra arm fabric, which bunched up around my armpits and constricted arm movement. Unless you have very large arms or a massive chest (I'm a 38), don't do it. Wait until they return to normal sizing.
SavageHun at Patagonia on 06/14/2012

Huge sizing but very nice

I wear a medium in every single top I've ever bought for my entire life. I swim in this thing. It is Patagonia's most "relaxed" fit, but come on....give a warning when it's this big. Other than the sizing, it's warm, snuggly and looks great on me.
johnny42 at Campmor on 03/03/2013

Too thick/warm

I have had several Synchilla snap tees thru the years and love the workmanship but alas, I'm sending my latest purchase back.
It is just too bulky and heavy (and warm) for daily use in California.
