The North Face McMurdo II Reviews:

Positive Reviews:

Well, I put these boots to the test. They kept my feet dry and warm. I hiked, snowshoe, shoveled, and walked in several inches of show in temperatures of sub-zero to mid 20's I would recommend these boots. But if you are one who does not move around in the winter and are looking for a boot to keep your feet warm.. put a foot warmer in your boot. You can buy instant foot warmers. They are like the instant hand warmers, but designed for boots. Most boots are designed with activity in mind, not for standing around. Your feet will get cold in any boot if this is the case. These boots do run very small. I wear a 6 boot with room for additional sock. Not so with theses boots. I had to go to a size 7 and can not put another sock with them. The boots are also light weight which is something a 4'11' , 94 pounder adult looks for. Over all I would still recommend these boots knowing these facts.

Best boots I've ever had. Great support, grip, warmth...and they even look great! The only thing is that they do run small: I too, usually wear a 7 1/2, so I ordered a 8 (for heavier socks), but they were still too snug. Ended up with a 8 1/2, and they are fine. They are a bit stiff, but not bad, plus they'll break-in want support, anyway. They are light, and easy to walk in. And just a F.Y.I., T.N.F. warrenties shoes/boots for 1 yr. only; all other products they make are lifetime. Had a N.F. hoodie for a number of years, lost a toggle button, they fixed questions asked, even though it had been years since I had bought it! Also, I have a pair of T.N.F. hiking boots for 3 years now and they are performing like new! Great products!
Suggest ordering only 1/2 size up, instead of a whole size, as these did pack down a little more than expected; wear good wool socks...still love them for all-round winter tromping!

I bought these boots as I prepared for an upcoming move to mid-Norway. I have worn them every single day since I have arrived*. I love them! They are comfortable, have good grip, are warm and keep my feet dry. My shoe size varies between an 8.5 and 9.5 depending on what type of shoe it is, and for these boots, I needed the 9.5. I have narrow feet/ankle so the boots are a bit roomy in the ankles, thus not the best for hiking around, but just fine for walking around town (and for my 30 minute walk to work). Seriously - love them!
* I actually have worn them everyday but one - on that day I wore a pair of trail runners and I had freezing feet and an overall body chill all day. I'll never do that again!

At first sight, I thought...oh, color doesn't look the same shade of brown. Then I put on and, oh my, these are heavy and stiff. I bought a half size larger, they just fit. Hey, they don't hurt either, let's just give them a chance, so I wore them inside for 2 days. They are not tennis shoes, loafers, or slippers, these are some tough boots. I am a 61 year old, scared of ice and I think I trust these shoes and so I am keeping them. If you are going to wear real heavy socks, get one size larger, but normally unless you have a wide foot I would go with 1/2 size. I wore them outside. Okay, so it was 46 degrees, but they gave me no problem walking around in them.

They're perfect!

I hate buying shoes online, as I'm always so afraid of whether or not they'll fit. Luckily, my boots arrived today and they fit PERFECTLY. Yay! I'm a size 8, ordered an 8. I would recommend that if you wear very thick socks for winter, order a half size up. I do not wear thick socks during winter, and I don't think I would be able to and have the boots fit as well as they do with my regular socks. They also look great and are obviously of the highest quality. I will be using these boots throughout the Chicago winter to walk four miles to work. They really look and feel like they are going to be up to it. What a great investment. I can't wait for winter now.

I just got these as a surprise from my husband. I had been looking for a new boot, and really liked the looks of this one. I can't wait for it to snow so I can wear them! When I tried them on with just a cotton sock, my feet were so warm and comfy! Walked around in them and the boots are so light and have great support.
This is my second time of ordering foot wear from North Face, and have not been disappointed.
I did have to order a size bigger than I wear, cause I went to store that carries North Face and found that they run a small. I wear a 10 and ordered a 11. ( I also don't like my toes near the end of my shoes)

happy feet

Originally bought these 6 years ago in for standing on a frozen pond once a week in the cold new england winter. Also used them for snow hiking with the dog, snowmobiling, and around town use. Cold rated correctly, I believe. Rubber part of boots began to crack last year and I had to replace the boots for this year. After much research, I went back to the McMurdo and bought another pair. Worn them a few times, already so happy and love the subtle updates. These are true to size, although when you first get them the inside is so plush, it could feel too small, but it quickly molds to your foot and feels so good on a cold day. Buy them.

I purchased these boots months ago, but waited until after a recent trip to Colorado to write this review. These boots easily withstood 5 days of hiking in the Rocky Mountains in 2-3 feet of snow. My feet stayed warm & dry without getting too hot, and the boots handled the rugged terrain well while providing great support. I would strongly recommend these boots to anyone, whether you're hiking in the mountains, or just for normal everyday use. They also run true to size. Awesome boots!!

Very practical boot. I had the same version in another color that was two and a half yrs old, and still goin strong through 2 winters. Somehow, I misplaced them so I had to get another pair. These are a sturdy shoe, that's perfect to walk in and beneficial for the body for anyone with back or knee issues. Its a great walking shoe and trully weatherproof. This boot makes not having to worry about your feet aching during errands, possible moms!

Warm and lots of support!

I originally ordered these for my mother's trip to Banff. Unfortunately, she found them too stiff and difficult to walk in. Fortunately, we have the same size feet! I tried them on and loved them. Yes, they are stiff, but it's a great ankle support. I use them for snowshoeing, and love them. They're very warm and comfortable, with a very cushion-y sole. Definitely keeps with the north face reputation!

Negative Reviews:

I bought these boots for a trip to Alaska.
I returned them because they are too bulky,
too stiff and really hard to walk in. I have to admit though, I am from the south and not at all used to this type of shoe. It seems to be well made. It's just not for me.

Neutral Reviews:

I bought these boots a few months ago to prepare for the winters where I moved to. When I first tried them on I thought they fit perfectly even though I bought a half size larger for toe room
The we got a huge snow storm and had to put on my new boots and shovel a driveway that was a 1/4 mile long and I had to stop three times to take breaks so I could take off these boots and uncramp my toes. My toes were very cramped and numb. I thought I did right by buying larger size as everyone said they run true to size. Now I will not be able to return them as I have worn them, and now have to buy a whole size larger and hope they fit good. Other than that I think these boots are very cozy warm and comfortable and with any luck the size 10 will be perfect!

These boots were great! There was tons of cushioning on the inside of the boot (my feet felt like they were surrounded by pillows!), lots of ankle support, a great chocolate brown, I loved these boots. But they were just too much. I planned on wearing these boots to walk around the city in snowy New England winters but these boots seemed more appropriate to hike snowy mountain tops. I tried them on and they took some time to get used to not lugging my feet around. Loved them but not for what I need.

Boot not as warm as I hoped and though they felt like the right size while walking around in my house, they are too small to keep your feet warm. Unfortunately, I had to wear them outside to figure that out, so now stuck with them. They are great quality, just too small. They are very stiff on the top, but feels like it keeps your ankle secure.
