This is a continuation of the Best Baselayer Performance Tests I conducted for ProLiteGear.com. For this series of tests I evaluated the current offering of Performance Cotton products for absorption rate and dry time.

I am using Patagonia 100% Organic Cotton, and a generic 50/50 Cotton(50% cotton, 50% Polyester) as control material to test against.

None of the "Performance Cotton" products performed nearly as well as synthetic base layers for absorption rate, wicking, or dry times. Merino/Synthetic hybrids also performed much better than any 100% cotton product, or any cotton/synthetic hybrid.

Under Armour claims that Charged Cotton "drys five times faster than ordinary cotton." I was unable to get UA Charged Cotton to perform anywhere close to that performance claim.

* Layer* Xtreme cotton does not wick moisture to a wide enough area to get an accurate moisture reading. After 45 minutes Layer8 Xtreme cotton still had a visible wet spot where the 3 drops of water were applied. Layer8 Xtreme cotton performed far worse than every other product tested.
