Its gooooood!

Simply put it's in the top of the freeze dried taste spectrum! Plus I cannot imagine you' could eat this good, get this full, and do so as easy as just adding boiling water with much of anything else but have not tired them all. No cons just a wish that it was available in single servings and that I would have used maybe about a ounce less water.

An old dog learns a new trick

My hiking partners are notoriously picky about backcountry food, and for years we have carried ingredients and extra fuel to cook for ourselves. This product has probably put an end to that time killing exercise, at least in some measure. I couldn't believe how well it turned out, and the partners raved.

Great meal

I was leary about freeze dried meals as my past experiences many years ago was not good. This was delicious! I ate every last bit and still wanted more. My only concern was the amount of sodium in it but I could get over that.

one of the better meals

Pros and Cons tell you all you need to know. It's tasty, filling, and quick to make. But not unlike any other freeze dried meal, the price is a little on the high side, but you typically get what you pay for.

Flippin Good

Hands down the best freeze dried meal. Definitely save this one for the end of the day as it sits very heavy in your stomach. Great taste, almost as if it were homemade. I take this one every time I go.

Another Favorite

Love this meal. I usually car camp so my husband and I split most of these meals, but this one is another one of my favorites. Very Tasty

Shepards potato stew

This was JUST enough food for two 15 year olds after an 18 mile day. It prepared easily and fast, and tasted incredible. Only downside is price.

you won't believe it's not homemade

I was very surprised how good this was! A great meal to have on our Camping trip. I felt like I was eating home cooking.

Pretty good

Had a good flavor and was hearty. Keep in mind though this is a STEW and as such is liquid in texture.

Best of the Freeze-Drieds

This is one of the best freeze-dried backpacker meals I've ever bought. All my camp mates took a taste and were jealous.

Negative Reviews:

High Sodium Content

I purchased this item based on the excellent reviews. Backpacker's Pantry certainly seems to offer more interesting choices of flavors than any other brand; however, the big problem I see repeated over and over with their meals is the very high sodium content. Several flavors I have tried all had salty flavor, and in some cases double your daily sodium allowance in a single serving. If they change the recipe I may give them a second look. I would not normally review a food item because its so much about personal taste, but in this case its very clear. Dont take my word for it, please read the labels and make your own decisions.

Saltiest meal I've ever had

This was the saltiest dehydrated meal I've ever had. So much so, that I only ate a third of it despite being hungry. The ingredients list made it clear that it had a lot of sodium - and most dehydrated meals do, but this tasted over the top. Perhaps it was defective. I had a choice of going hungry or eating a bag of salt. I chose hunger.

Not as good as expected ...

I have used other brands of rehydrated meals and was disappointed overall with this brand. For trips over several days I like to mix in meals with potatoes in them, other than rice and pasta exclusively. The potato meals with this brand were not as good as expected. I was at 10,600 feet elevation and followed directions but it was a disappointing meal.

Just OK

I'll agree that this is a hearty meal, but I found it to be rather bland compared to other meals available. Won't be getting it again.
