I am not a runner but I like athletic shoes for everyday wear because of their combination of support and cushioning. That said, finding an athletic shoe that fits and is comfortable has been a years-long search. Some months ago I found the Ravenna 4 and was happy to find the qualities I had been looking for in a running shoe and was pleased to find that they were even more comfortable as time went on. Then I saw the Ravenna 5 and decided even before I tried them on that I had to have them -- they are so cute and colorful. I have been wearing the Ravenna 5's daily for over two weeks now and they are even more comfortable than the 4's. They are the perfect shoe for my foot, they fit like a glove and needed no breaking in at all. I have a narrow foot and actually did buy the Glycerin which comes in a narrow width but while it fit my right foot perfectly, it pinched the left side of my left foot. So, back they went, and based on my experience with the 4's, I bought the 5's. With both the 4's and the 5's (which come only in a medium width), I took out the insole and put in a flat Spenco insole and my orthotic on top of that. The Spenco tightens up the shoe so that it fits my foot perfectly. The heels of both Ravennas cup my narrow heel just right as well. That's another area that has been a problem for me. I had to dump two pairs of New Balance cross-trainers (both in a narrow width) because the heels were too loose and the support was inadequate for my knees and hips and back. The Ravennas work with my orthotics to help support these areas as well. Great shoe, Brooks! And as always, great customer service from Zappos!
I have been running in Brooks shoes for years and cannot imagine running in anything else. I was so excited about the launch of Brooks' Pureflow and went through two pairs of the early version. However, when they changed the lacing style and footbed, I was back to square one. I have always gone to specialty running stores to try on my running shoes and take them out for a spin around the parking lot before purchasing. However, this time I just jumped in and ordered the new Brooks Ravennas off of reviews alone... and so far I am pleasantly surprised! They are still no match for the original Pureflows, but I may have just found a substitute that I can live with. I cannot wait to log more miles on these babies! They could be great half marathon or marathon shoes.
After buying and sending back approximately 20 pair of tennis shoes, I ended up with these. I don't like heavy/hot shoes. These were for walking - took them out of the box on a cruise and walked 2-3 miles everyday and love the shoes. They're cool, lightweight, have good support - I usually have something bad to say about every tennis shoe, but not this one. Love it!
I purchase Brooks to either run in or to work in (I am on my feet all day at work). These shoes are like walking on clouds. Very comfortable for work and I like them for running as well. The tough part is deciding whether or not they will be work shoes or running shoes. The colors are great in person, also.
This is my second pair of this model and is one of the few shoes that has a wide enough and high enough toe box for my feet. The colors are bright and contemporary but dark enough so they don't get dirty so fast - especially this gray one. Feminine but not "girley."
