If you've gotta wear pants, you might as well wear these. I tried these out in comparison with the standard Roc pants and ultimately chose the Ultimates over the standards. Not for any negative aspect of the Roc pants, but just that I felt the Ultimates were just more superior for what I was looking for in my pants.
The water/dirt repellency is great, and the pants are oh so soft and pliable right out of the package. I appreciate the fit on these over the Roc pants and these are a little less baggy. The sizing seems to be just a little bit big. I'm 6'1" and 180lbs and usually go for a 33x32 if they've got them and I found the 32x32 to fit much better than the 34x32's I tried. I've been wearing the same pair of these since I got them a week ago and I find they work for all occasions. Stylish enough to wear to church and yet durable enough to fall down a mountain in.
Also, on a side note, my wife says they make my butt look awesome.
the Columbia ultimate roc pant is an excellent pant in casual style, color, material weight, and material softness. The only issue i have had with this pant is in the sizing, it tends to be 2 sizes to large in the waist, The length has always been true to size. The 5 pair that i have purchased through 2012 from different sources on the internet have all had the same issue with sizing. These pants have been perfect for someone like me ( a 55 year old cowboy) who always wore bluejeans but at times wants to look a little more dressed up.
Picked up a pair in Alpine Tundra color. Love em so far. Sizing is nice, not too tight, not too baggy - good fit for stocky builds like me. I'm 5'10" 185, and the 34x30 is a perfect fit. The fabric isn't as thick as my Mountain Khakis, but the fit is better. Time will tell how they wear. I work out in rugged places alot (Geologist), and generally wear pants out quickly.
Wonderfully tough without sacrificing comfort. Count on wearing these puppies for years - and they just get better with age - until they finally deteriorate from use and wash. I prefer these over the ROCs, but only just, mainly because of the waist snap. The "cell phone" pocket on the leg is ideal - even for a smart phone - quick access without worrying about dropping anything.
5 out of 5 starbursts baby!
With 6 pockets and made of cotton canvas treated for protection from UVA/UVB rays you just can't go wrong. I first ordered one in surplus green color, and then couldn't resist the temptation to order another in grill. Now I feel like I am more or less in business sports-pants-wise. At 61 I am not much of a sportsman, but do you need a justification to own a good thing?
I bought these as a Christmas gift for my dad and he loves them. He said he is a solid 34x30 and these fit him perfectly in the waist and inseam. My dad has had a number of these Ultimate Roc pants over the years and he clearly loves them as he keeps going back for more.
Good Material, soft canvas not stiff as a board like some other brands and ample leg room for wearing thermals under. Great range of movement done several 5-7 mile hikes not a snag yet.
I bought these pants to wear with a boy scout uniform, because there wasn't any way I was wearing actual scout pants. Very comfortable in the Georgia humidity, good looking, and lots of pockets.
After having worn both the ROC and Ultimate ROC Pants, I prefer the ROC Pants. The ROC Pants have a roomier cut, two extra belt loops in the back that keep your belt from riding up and prefer the zippered security pocket up behind the open pocket for your hands. The zippered pocket for the Ultimate ROC pant is by your knee and anything you place in it bounces off your knee when you walk.
If they made the ROC Pant with the water/dirt repellant it would be perfect.
