With out a doubt, these are the "go to" short for beating around in the summer if you're near water (or not). Patagonia used to tout these as "put them on in the spring, and you don't need to take them off until the fall, literally". While that sounds disgusting, as long as there's a shower involved occasionally, it's not too far from the truth (just wear them in the shower too so they get washed as well). While I have had a pair or 2 of these handy for at least 20 years now, the only thing I've noticed about them you should be aware of before getting them for the first time is that the mobility is just slightly limited when scrambling around, and if you're rowing a boat in them, watch out for catching the oar handles in the pockets and ripping them, but I won't drop a star because of that simply because they are one of my favorite shorts out there.
First off, you husky fellas, listen here. This is the suit for you. As a hefty fella, I've struggled my entire life to find a suit that both fits well and doesn't make you look like Grandpa. These are them. I got a pair of large 7" trunks, and they fit great (I'm 5'9", 220lbs). I'm never buying a different pair of swim trunks again. I've found the ones perfect for me. I wore these suckers for five days straight on a recent camping trip; even sleeping in them. That's right, five days. Don't worry, I washed them daily. Sure, they might have been washed with shampoo, but they were so amazing I just didn't care. After the 5 days of mucking about in the woods and swimming in rivers, the lemon lime is still lemon lime bright!
Buy them... you won't be disappointed.
I have a pair of these (small) in ginkgo. The color is pretty awesome, a nice vivid green! I wore these fishing the other day at the lake and they dried quite quickly after jumping in. I have also worn them to class because of the comfort and breathability (those classrooms get hot). They work fine everywhere. The nylon is pretty durable, went through some briars and there aren't any snags in them. I love 'em. They land a few inches above my knee, I'm 5'10"
I could not be more in love with a pair of shorts. I bought some and was on the fence about it. I Love them. They are versatile: I wear them biking, climbing, hiking, running, and swimming. They are stylish. They are comfortable. They are awesome.
If you are thinking about buying them, do it! If you are on the fence about buying them, get a pair!! If you aren't thinking about buying, why aren't you?! They're awesome! Get a pair RIGHT NOW!!
these are very good shorts. i have the 5-inch ones and they are pretty short (don't forget to put on sunscreen on your thighs!). i use them backpacking, kayakng, and even swimming sometimes. usually am a 32-34 waist and the medium fit me perfectly. definitely recommend them
Had a pair a long time ago. Tried other fancy swim trunks but came back to the classic this year. And ended up getting a new pair. You just can't beat them for hanging out around and in the water. Dries quickly and supper comfy
I got these to wear in the water, but have spent more time using them as an everyday pair of shorts. They are comfortable, lightweight, and dry super fast. I'll be ordering another pair soon.
Dry super fast, and really comfortable. They're perfect for swimming, hanging out, and pretty much do it all. They are fast becoming my favorite shorts!
these are the greatest thing ever made!the baggies (long inseam) are the only thing that goes on my bottom half from march to september.
I got a pair for the summer, and they fit great. True to size and well made.
The shorts are probably fine for someone going for the 1970's look. I was really surprised when I put them on how short they were. Based on the photo and the description of them, I don't believe the length was specifically indicated. I plan to return them. Thanks.
I had a pair off these years ago. Of course they dont make them the same now, different material. There great and all that but I have an issue with their sizing. I ware a 38 and they say a 38 is XL so thats what I got and their tooooo big. Large would of been just fine. Like all Patagonia stuff its only worth buying on sale.
