Built to the same tough specifications as the Sport II and Back Pack II, it has a forged stainless steel head, glass-filled nylon handle and molded plastic sheath. This is the axe for setting up camp, splitting kindling, and pounding in tent stakes.

Fabric:

  • Glass-filled Nylon handle

  • Forged steel head
  • Excellent edge retention

Gerber designs the tools, knives and outdoor gear that are essential, not only for the task at hand, but for bringing back something lost: our self-reliance. There's just something kind of satisfying about swinging a simple, no-nonsense axe. One that's balanced, and weighted for efficient impacts. That pretty much describes Gerber Axes. Each one sports a forged stainless steel head. And edge retention that'll have people talking. And glass-filled nylon handles that are all but impossible to damage. Let alone break.

Gerber Camp Axe Reviews:

Positive Reviews:

great size / perfect weight

I use this ax daily for pounding wedges and quick limbing. This ax holds up to two handed swings. It is a perfet weight for carrying around on my wedge pouch. Havn't found a match for it yet. Perfect handle size.

great axe

Great axe for home and Camp. A bit to long to backpack with but perfect for splitting wood at the site or use to trim branches when cleaning up brush.

Great Camping Axe

Mostly using it for splitting campfire wood. Has great weight and swing action. A great all around quality axe.

Negative Reviews:

Product not as pictured

This product is listed as the original CampAxe with ballistic nylon sheath which is an excellent hatchet. The product that will be sold and shipped is the CampAxe II. The CampAxe II is longer and heavier which results in an uncomfortable balance. It also does not come with the nylon sheath but some plastic cover that is really just packaging being pawned off as a cover/sheath. Why Gerber would change and discontinue such an excellent axe/hatchet in the original is beyond me. I have had atleast 4 of the original Gerber CampAxe only to misplace or lose them[probably stolen by campmates as well]. The new axe may still be better than most on the market but it pales in comparison to the original, do not buy this axe. Search and verify that you are indeed buying the Original with the nylon sheath.

This axe DOES NOT come with the sheath

This is the new Camp Axe II and it does not come with a sheath. The Camp Axe II is longer and heavier than the original Camp Axe. These things make it harder to use and pack in a backpack - no sheath, longer, and heavier. I liked the original Camp Axe because of its weight and ease of swing. I also question Gerber's quality since the new re-branding and alignment with "Bear Grylls". Their products don't seem as nice now. I would not recommend anything from the new Gerber line.
