The North Face Altimont Jacket -
When your girl is jazzed to be hiking with you but not so psyched on the treeless peak terrain (that wind is so cold), she'll be glad to have The North Face Altimont for the final summit push. This lightweight nylon ripstop shell is treated with a DWR coating to provide protection from light water and wind. Elastic side hems keep the Altimont in place and, when the wind dies down, she can stow the entire jacket into one of the hand pockets.

Fabric:

  • 100% nylon ripstop with polyurethane PU coating and DWR finish
  • Encased elastic at hood, cuffs and hem

Hood:

  • Fixed hood

Weather and Wind:

  • Attach all velcro closures and zip all zippers.  Wash in cold water with a powder detergent.  Put through two rinse cycles.  Dry on medium heat.  Retreat your product with a coating of a DWR spray, such as Tectron or Revivex. This maintenance program is only required when water stops beading up on the outside of the garment.

Logo/Graphics:

  • Screen-printed logo at left chest and back right shoulder

Pockets:

  • Stowable in left hand pocket

The North Face Altimont Jacket Reviews:

Positive Reviews:

It is actually really hard to find a nice lightweight shell for kids, this jacket fits the bill. A wind shell is an important part of my backcountry gear list. My daughters have taken this item on several backpacking trips so far. We have not used this shell in light rain but has a windblock it is very effective.

Negative Reviews:

I read the description on this jacket and felt it would sufficient for the job as my daughter was in need of a new raincoat that would be versatile and would work for her upcoming camping trip.
Not the case when the jacket arrived. It is really a windbreaker, I can't see it witholding any type of rain, the pocket feature is cool but not neccessary nor needed. We went with the resolve instead which is more of a raincoat and has warmth to it, this jacket had no warmth factor at all.
I returned and re-ordered, unfortunately didn't know it would cost be $6.99:(
