Outdoor Research Swift Cap Reviews:

Positive Reviews:

I'm extremely impressed with this cap! Las Vegas summers can be brutally hot and most other caps I've tried lack ventilation and make me feel even hotter. However, I am bald and must wear protection in the sun. The Swift Cap's ingenious design is extremely lightweight and allows for airflow over the sides and top of the head! The design is similar to a camping tent with mesh at the top for airflow, covered by a solid sheet of material for sun protection. Other lightweight cycling caps I've tried will often have ventilation on the sides only and cause perspiration on the top of my head and brow. With the Swift Cap, I only feel the breeze! The interior headband is soft and wicks away moisture well and the size adjustment clasp on the back is easy to use. The overall construction appears excellent. I've had this cap for only a month so far, but it looks as though it will last through heavy wear. I would have preferred the manufacturer had not placed their logo dead center on the front, but the logo itself and colors are unobtrusive and the overall look is sporty and smart. Any styling preferences are outweighed by the cap's clever design. Ultimately, the cap conforms to the head and fits me well. I purchased both the khaki and black hats and have been wearing them almost exclusively. Two thumbs up to a great design!

Comfortable, lightweight, good protectio

Caught one of these on sale a few years ago, and it was my daily wear cap until a dog destroyed it last month. Now I'm back to get another.

Good: Comfortable, great sun performance, good ventilation, and easy to stow -- fits great in a cargo pocket, and can be wrapped around a Nalgene and shoved into that mesh side-pocket on your backpack. If you're into shooting sports (or work in a machine shop, whatever) the shape of the bill gives great protection against hot brass and other flying debris.

Weak points: it shows sweat stains readily. The bill has a really severe wrap which (while giving GREAT sun/rain/debris protection) doesn't seem to be what kids-these-days are into. That same wrap means the bill MAY rub the frames of your eyeglasses, though wrap-around sunglasses and safety glasses are fine. The size adjustment slips every once in a while.

So-so: it isn't intended for rain performance, but does okay with some caveats. The bill definitely keeps rain out of your eyes, but may cause drips onto your cheekbones and mouth. The material gets soggy and wrinkles up. The mesh lets water onto your scalp.

This hat is light weight and super awesome. By awesome, I mean that it is super cheap for what you are getting. light weight, good at blocking the sun, eye catching, cool looking.
I accidentally bent the brim the wrong way and with some magic I quickly moved it back into place and i haven't noticed any problems with the brim.
I enjoy the fabric of the hat, a combination of mesh and a highly woven cover. I suggest taking this on trips when it is not moist/ wet/ damp/ soaking/ downpour/ sprinkle/ watery, because the top is open and the only real protection you would get is in your eyes, no top protection, more for venting, which is why it is super great for running.
I run XC for my high school and will wear this hat on those sunny shirtless days, I dont really like wearing my sunglasses while i run because i feel like it wobbles and bounces on my face. Hats stick better to your head and does not impede your vision as much. Great hat for the cheap price, good Baseball cap, I also plan on taking this up mountain climbing like Mt. Rainer.

This is the second OR Swift cap that I have bought. I have the khaki one (the tan coloured one) for the wilderness, and a blue one for when I prefer a more pleasing appearance around town, at the park, or wherever else.
They are well-fitting, light, breathable, and have a sensibly sized peak. The fact that the cap has mesh all the way under the solid top panel is the cause of great ventilation and breathablity. The solid panel is kept off the head, and this also aids in preventing sun-induced fatigue.
The comment in another review that the strap dangles is not a problem, because the strap actually has a purposely designed channel on the other side for the strap to slide in to. It can be hard to see and easy to miss, but this makes it seamless once the strap is tucked away.

Best hat ever!

Love this hat! I'm going to buy 2 more because I know most companies are prone to "newitis" and "new and improved" with everything they make every year or 2. I have to agree with the above reviewer from Brazil; the OR logo on the front of the cap is too big. When out and about people often look at my hat and say "Or what? I usually reply "Or else!". But that is getting tiresome.
Outdoor research: please continue making this hat, just make the logo a lot smaller and maybe put it off to one side? Also please make more neutral colors available. (I love '80's music but hate '80's neon colors!). Otherwise the hat is a home run. Comfort, performance and durability of this hat gets 5 stars. I'm only giving 4 stars overall because of the logo caveat.

I used to wear a surplus boonie cap with a full brim when I went on 3-season hikes/camping. Picked up this cap on a whim and it immediately became my go-to cap. It is significantly lighter, breathes well, and packs down to almost nothing. The fabric even seems to be some what water repellent. In a gentle drizzle, I noticed the water was beading rather than soaking in.
I have the dark olive green color, and love it for being in the woods. Will probably snag a blue for use around the city where color coordination is a bit more important.

OR Swift Cap

Looks and feels great. You can't tell from the picture, but the whole hat is the mesh looking stuff. It's a very tightly woven mesh. There is a layer of cloth (only attached at the brim and the top) that adds some style and sun protection. It, too, is very lightweight and breathable. The inside sweat band is AWESOME. The sizing is quite adjustable, so I'm sure it would fit just about anyone.

I'm very happy with my purchase. We'll see how long it lasts, but it feels really well made like most OR stuff.

Great hat!

I bought this hat for sun protection during a trip to the Sahara Desert in Egypt. I'm really picky about all my hats, especially baseball caps, so I particularly wanted one that wouldn't peg me as an American tourist like if I wore, say, a San Francisco Giants cap or something. Given the neutral graphics (only the OR) logo, it's pretty simple in appearance. Also, given the lightweight material and breathability, you sometimes forget that you're even wearing this thing. All in all, this is great headwear.

Kind of hard to get too effusive over a hat but, for me, this is hands down the best hiking cap I've ever owned.
I'm in SoCal and even though we have big boy ranges and snow; a cap is what I'll wear on the trail nine months out of the year. This hat is crazy light, durable, allows for some ventilation and is low-profile. It also cleans up really well and has a cool 'hiker' look.
You won't go wrong with pulling the trigger on this one.

What a hat!

This hat is great. It felt really good the first time it went on and is still my favorite hat. The hat lets air flow so well that I can feel every breeze on my head. Even after long days in the sun,I've had no sunburns through the mesh. The only thing I'm a little concerned about will be the longevity of the material on the bill, but the actual brim feels reinforced so it will probably stand up to a couple hard years.

Negative Reviews:

First, let me say this is a great cap idea. It does a great job at letting air flow. The problem is the sizing. I have it sized all the way down and it is still a little loose in the wind. I wear a medium in other OR hats, but this is swimmingly large. I'm looking at replacing the strap design with Velcro, hopefully that will allow me to adjust it to an appropriate size.

I have two Swift Caps and love 'em so much I bought a third. This Swift Cap looks similar, but on closer inspection it is a slightly smaller cap. It still says one size fits all, but this is not so. The other caps fit me fine. This new cap is a skull cap. Less fabric on top with a longer tail at the back. Very disappointing!

Small

I normally wear a Large size in Outdoor Research hats. This hat would not fit me without looking like I was wearing a kids hat. I ended up giving it to one of my kids to wear. Nice hat, just too small for me.
