Asics GEL-Nimbus 15 -

Minimalist shoes may have taken the running industry by storm over the past few years, but for road runners in need of pronation correction, a shoe like the Asics Men's Gel-Nimbus 15 Running Shoe is still a gift from the running gods. The upper feels stretchy, the midsole feels plush and cushioned, and an array of support and guidance structures and technologies correct or enhance your natural gait so you're swift and smooth on your toes. This is a flagship, long-distance shoe targeted at runners who under or over pronate and want to feel confident and quick during the longest training sessions on the road.

Fabric:

  • Guidance Trusstic System integrates vertical flex-groove construction for enhanced gait and efficiency while providing midfoot structural integrity
  • Lightweight and flexible synthetic textile and polyester mesh uppers offer maximum breathability and comfort; exoskeletal heel counters help cradle heels for increased support

Lining and Layers:

  • Personal Heel Fit (PHF) uses two layers of memory foam lining around the collar
  • Vertical flex groove in rubber outsoles follows the line of progression throughout the gait cycle to enhance gait efficiency

Fit:

  • Exoskeletal heel counter provides improved support and creates improved heel fitting environment.
  • Discrete eyelets disperse lacing tension so you get the most comfortable and secure fit across the top of the foot
  • Upper technology combines multi-directional stretch mesh with stretch reinforcements that adapt to the athlete's foot, creating a truly customized glove-like fit
  • Discrete eyelets disburse lace tension, for customized fit and enhanced upper comfort.

Midsole:

  • Guidance Line is a combination of midsole and outsole design that uses a vertical flex-groove to add flex to these structures so you can achieve the most efficient foot strike
  • Guidance Trusstic System is the integration of the Guidance Line technology from the outsole through the midsole
  • FluidRide midsole provides the ultimate combination of bounce back and cushioning properties with reduced weight and exceptional durability
  • Fluid Ride midsole adds quick rebound after foot strike and it provides soft cushioning for comfort

Support and Cushioning:

  • ComforDry sockliner offers light cushioning for comfort and is treated to repel the bacteria that causes funky odors
  • Moderate-to-high 10mm drop is ideal for heel strikers or runners who prefer a little extra heel cushioning
  • Gel-Nimbus is designed to deliver support for overpronation, those in need of neutral cushioning, and underpronation
  • Rearfoot and forefoot silicone-based gel inserts absorb excess shock in all directions, delivering cushioning and stability
  • Impact Guidance System (IGS) is Asic's design methodology that uses linked support, cushioning, and performance technologies and structures too complement and enhance your natural gait
  • Rearfoot and forefoot GEL cushioning reduces shock during impact and toe-off phases
  • Heel Clutching System is a heel-counter support that helps center your heel and midfoot during foot strike
  • ComforDry sockliner provides cushioning performance and anti-odor properties for a cooler, drier, healthier environment

Sizing:

  • Runs small, order 1/2 size larger

Traction and Grip:

  • Asics's High Abrasion Rubber (AHAR) is highly durable rubber placed in critical areas under the foot to ensure maximum traction and outsole lifespan

Manufactured:

  • Made in Viet Nam

Upper:

  • FluidFit is the combination of stretch mesh and stretch reinforcements that allow the upper to conform to the natural shape of your foot

Features:

  • Pronation is how a runner's foot rolls laterally between footfall and toe-off: Underpronation is when the foot rolls outwards, overpronation is when it rolls inwards, and a neutral pattern is when little rolling occurs
  • US shipments only
  • Under to neutral pronation stability.
  • Stable platform
  • Great for runners ranging from the underpronator to the moderate overpronator
  • Impact Guidance System (IGS®) helps slow pronation for an optimal gait and natural foot movement from heel strike through toe-off
  • APMA (American Podiatric Medical Association) Seal of Acceptance
  • 10mm drop (heel-forefoot offset) means that your heel is higher from the ground than your toes, which offers a more traditional running shoe sensation

Denali

Run like the wind in the newest edition of the GEL-Nimbus 15 by Asics. Eliminate painful joints during ground strikes or sore ankles and feet after a workout with some of the softest shoes available. Like other Asics lines, the FluidRide gel cushioning system is dispersed among the entire foot, lessening the force of each strike and spreading the energy across a wider area. Like clouds on your feet, thanks to the Solyte midsole, the GEL-Nimbus 15 reduces the jolt of each stride and weighs less than the majority of running shoes currently on the market. Finally, the sworn enemy of any athlete-athlete's foot-is warded off by ComforDry technology that keeps your feet dry and clean during exercise. Runners are built from the ground up, and there is no better foundation than the Asics GEL-Nimbus 15.

Asics GEL-Nimbus 15 Reviews:

Positive Reviews:

GEL-Nimbus 15 awesome again!

I've used Gel Nimbus starting with 13 which were GREAT, I hated the 14s used the old 13s until 15 came out, and I am very happy again. Don't know exactly what the deal was with me and the 14s but I am glad the 15s have me back in a happy place. I average 25-30 miles a week mostly on roads but sometimes on a treadmill and I REALLY LIKE these on either terrain. I'm not sure what the perceived issue is with the tongue, on my Nimbus 14s and 15s they are exactly the same length (5 inches from the first lace holes to the back most edge of the tongue, 8 1/2 inches from the front of the shoe to the back edge of the tongue). Visually the 15s are a LOT brighter that may be the reason for the perceived largeness.

I was looking for a shoe that has good cushion for my bad knees. The shoes is light, breath very well for summer and importantly, it was cushion with full gell for support. This is my 3rd ASIC running show, the most expensive and I was happy with the investment. I had problem with upper mesh for my first 2 pair where it torn apart after 6 months of use and hope to see that this will last longer. I survived my first 5 miles run with the shoe last month and hope to run longer and farther with this shoe.

I've had several pair of running shoes. Asics has consistently been my favorite brand (I've tried almost every other). The Gel Nimbus 12 were far any away my favorites purchased in 2010. However when I upgraded to the Nimbus 14 I was disappointed. They were comfortable to wear, but not for running. I think it lacked impact cushioning. The Nimbus 15 is a tremendous improvement over the 14 and a nice upgrade from the 12. I am very pleased and I expect this will be my shoe for the next several hundred miles.

This ASICS GEL-Nimbus 15 shoe was purchased for my husband. We have purchased several Asics including the Nimbus 13. The 15 is a great shoe for training and/or running a half marathon. He enjoyed the improvements from 13, although both are good running shoes. They require no break in. The shoe fits true to size. Zappos is the only online store where we order our running shoes. Fantastic service!

These shoes have been great. I have been wearing the ASICS Kayano for several years and decided to try a more neutral shoe, it has been a great transition. My feet measure at a size 11 and I typically wear a size 12 in most of my regular shoes. I ended up with a size 12.5 in the Nimbus 15 for the extra room.

The 15's are great, 10 miles on the initial run and no issues. Zappos is great also, replaced for a different size without a hassle. It's been a month, and my miles tell me it time to order a new pair of 15's.
Daniel H - customer at Zappos.com on 01/30/2014
I love my shoes as usual, but if for some reason I didn't, I would have no problem with Zappos and that is why I only order through them. Bad experience with anybody else so far, hassle free, awesome customer service.

Excellent backpacking shoe

I use these with Superfeet inserts for long distance hiking and backpacking. A pair lasts about 6 to 700 miles. Have been using Gel Nimbus for about nine years.

Negative Reviews:

PLEASE REMOVE THE PORK CHOP!!

I've used the Nimbus going back to the Nimbus 12, and average about 2 pair per series, so I think this is like my 7th pair or so. I typically give the shoe very high marks and then add in my gripe about the ridiculously large tongue. In past reviews, I've likened it to that which was found in the high-tops of the 1980's. The Nimbus 14 was much better in this regard, so I thought that maybe Asics was on the right track streamlining that part of this shoe. However, I just received my first pair of 15's, and they've pulled a full 180. I feel like there's a pork chop sticking out the top of the shoe. It looks ridiculous and is anoying when it bumps up against your shin thousands of times on a run. I understand it's a cushioning shoe, but that doesn't mean a pillow across the top is needed. I could seriously lop of about a full inch of the thing and there would still be sufficient material to do what it needs to do. I know it's a vanity thing, but I don't care anymore. I'm giving the shoe low marks solely on this issue and will look for a different go-to shoe in the future until they change this feature. Remove the pork chop, Asics!!!
