Perfectly sized for little kids
I love these packs.. but they are small! That's not a bad thing, as long as you know to expect it, but they are small enough that an average 3 year old could wear one comfortably, and no one ran out of water on any hike we went on, and there was plenty of room to stash a few snacks and their rain jackets.
My ONLY gripe, although it wasn't enough to warrant returning the pack, is that the painted flames began to wear off the pack the very first day after we bought it. So the newer red pack looks older and more worn than our older pink pack does.
I would recommend carrying at least an extra bite valve - my daughter ended up putting a hole in hers at some point in Yellowstone, which we fixed by just having her turn off the valve, but it was a little inconvenient to have her keep doing that. There are enough small zippered compartments inside that stashing an extra inside is easy.

Great Pack for Small Children
My 5 year old nephew wanted a hiking bag like his aunt. I was so happy to find this bag and let me tell you - it's a GREAT little bag for a kid. Really it's just a mini version of a day hiking bag. Fit him well and he can get a few years out of it before being too big for it.
Let's my daughter carry her own water, jacket, and snack - and a small stuffed animal most days!
Fits my 5yr old girl perfectly (~40" tall) and has big adjustable range for straps.
Bladder is nice and has the same 1/4 turn top as my full size MULE - but no quick release on the hose/bladder interface.
My boy is six and loves the mini mule. Mostly for mountainbiking and hiking , but also adventure in general . I'll let him take the handle bars on this one. " I like the rescue whistle, how the pack holds stuff and water" nuf said !
I bought this pack for my nephew. He loves it! It's not very big but he can carry his own water and a jacket. The flame decal is a fun detail for kids. I'm sure he'll get a lot of use out of this pack.
