Best-in-class liteweight active backpack
I picked this backpack because when I go backpacking for a week in the Rockies, I wanted a super lightweight backpack to bring for day trips. It fit the bill perfectly. Just over 1 lb and it's somewhat "squishable" into odd spaces. I can put a BearVault 500 food canister in the sleeping bag compartment of my Deuter AirContact 55+10, and still wrap this lightweight pack around the bear canister before zipping up the sleeping bag compartment. Very sharp and attractive - looks technical but doesn't shout it like some packs. No velcro - and I don't want the noise of velcro whether I'm in a crowded room, scrounging for something in my tent in the dark, or getting my camera out to take a picture of wildlife. Not a lot of structure or support if you carry heavy items, of course, but you won't find that in any ~1-lb backpack. You can even remove the delrin hoop (for structure) to make it a bit more squishable but this doesn't save more than an ounce. It's made of very durable ripstop material. Put it this way - it wouldn't be very comfortable to carry two 15-lb dumbbells in there, but if I throw them in and strap it on my back it doesn't feel like it's going to rip out somewhere right away, either. I haven't used it for bike commuting, but the back and shoulder strap have a breathable padding about 1/3 inch thick. Again amazing given the weight. This is a tall, narrow-profile pack to give your arms freedom of movement. If you want to haul a laptop, the SpeedLite will easily fit a 13-in laptop sleeve that's 10in x 13.5in, but my older 12in x 13in x 3in Trager Transporter case is a bit too wide to zip the top closed at 12in. Small handy top pocket is 8in x 7in (not very thick) for things like camera, wallet, keys, or maybe a (thin) sandwich. Two side pockets securely carry a couple Nalgenes. There's a thin pouch almost as large as the main compartment that could hold a water bladder against your back, and there's a hole specifically for a hydration tube. There's also a compartment you can access on the back that could fit a (smaller) water bladder. There are several secure attachment points. The zipper pulls are loops with a bit of rigid plastic that keeps the loop always open, so you could easily hook a finger through and any of the pulls even with gloves on. Believe me, they've put a lot of thought into every part of the design. It isn't cheap, but given the weight I can't think of a single negative about this pack. So long as you find the right-sized bladder, I'd pick this over a dedicated hydration pack any day because it's so versatile for any other purpose, though I've never used it with my hydration system yet, so maybe there's some drawbacks I've overlooked there (knowing Deuter, I doubt it). I just throw one or two Nalgenes on for hiking. It's a practical, sharp-looking, no-regrets pack that meets or exceeds all my expectations!
The Golidlocks Pack!
I try to do a couple of 8-10 miles 'speed hikes' (2-1/2 - 3 hours) every week. Living in SC makes it necessary to carry a hydration bladder and I have struggled to find a good, light pack to hold a 1.5-liter bladder, a shell, and a first-aid/emergency kit. I've tried several over the years and most are too big. Many are too small and fragile. Well, this one is 'just right!' It is well made and very durable, but still weighs only 500 grams. It has plenty of room and is very adjustable. The exterior pocket is very well designed and holds a jacket, gloves, even a helmet. Most small packs only have elastic cords on the exterior, which don't securely hold items. I am a pretty big guy (6' - 240 lbs.) and the straps, including the chest and waist straps, fit me well. The hydration bladder fits well and attaches securely to the velcor loop on the right shoulder strap. One very minor gripe is that the small valuable pocket makes it a little tough to load the bladder as it hangs into the same spot. But as long as you store only the necessities (lip balm, protein bars, keys) in the valuables pocket, you'll have no problems. YOU WILL LOVE THIS PACK!
Every detail on this pack is well thought out from the clips to the stitch. Female end of the clips are stitched with protective material underneath so the clip does not rub the fabric. The zippers are pulled by large string loops, big enough for your finger to fit with a glove on. A fabric strap pulls out of the bottom of the bag on the front to attach items. Equipped with reservoir pouch and tube clip on shoulder strap. The chest straps vertical adjustment by using thick sturdy piping attached by a rigid plastic c-clip. Makes my current 6 year old pack, well look like it's 6 years old. This Deuter is a BMW, my old one is Corolla.
I immediately removed the waste strap, because I wouldn't need it for my use. I had to run the extra strap length through the clips on the top sides of the pack.
All in all can't wait to use the pack but it looks great, fits good (5' 11" 170) and is just big enough for your supplies for a day skiing, hiking, biking, or lounging by the pool.
The king of daypacks
Had this for about 8 months now and it is an absolutely superb daypack. Big enough for the essentials but small enough form factor that it sits nicely between the shoulders. It's generally high on the back but it balances well due to the smaller size. No worries about being off balance even when fully loaded with a 3L bladder and gear.
I have used this once for a summer overnighter where I simply slept in a hammock with a bug net and ate ready to eat food (i.e. no cooking gear). It was jammed full for that one and probably would pull out the bigger pack next time had I planned for it.
I have also made this my climbing gym bag and take it out on day climbs when I'm not slinging the rope. It carries clothes, shoes, and basic gear well (biners, belay device, chalk bag, etc.), even with the bladder in there.
My only gripe is the worthless waist belt which is nothing more than a 3/4" nylon strap. Luckily, it comes right off.

Day Pack Paradise!
I use this pack for work and play. I commute via bike and my 11" Macbook Air fits nicely into the section designed for the water bladder. I put a water bottle into the side pocket and use the compression straps to ensure it doesn't wiggle free while I'm biking through the city. My keys are safely secured in the top pocket's key-loop. I also keep my phone and lip balm in this easy to access top pocket. I love the zip loops - I can access the pack quickly even when I am wearing gloves.
It can get a bit hot & sweaty in summer, but I'm prepared to put up with this as the pack is wonderfully light. I like the capacity as I feel that 20L is enough to fit all my essentials and none of the extras that at the end of the day I can really do without. I have been using this pack for more than 2 years and it's still going strong. Excellent quality.

Pretty Much a Perfect Pack
I bought one of these as a running backpack so I could carry my items while I ran to work. It's able to carry my breakfast/lunch, change of clothes, a light running jacket, and a pair of shoes.
The top pocket is convenient for high importance items like keys.
It also has a hydration pocket but I have never used it.
The straps are nicely padded. I got the fit right after about a week of experimentation while running/biking. There are compression straps on the sides, and there is a waist belt. The belt is just webbing and is pretty minimalist but thats perfect for running.
I use it 3-4 times a week to run or bike to work. It doesnt jostle or hinder me in any way. The back does get hot at times, but I live in TX and I'm naturally warm.
I'd recommend this to anyone who needs a similar product and only needs as much space as I mentioned above

Day Trip Winner
I got this pack before I made a one-week trip to Poland. I wanted something that would easily stow in my suitcase, but once I arrived, would be capable of supporting me through a day of photography and sound recording. My first hike was actually at REI -- up and down the aisles, back and forth, comparing all the small packs. I wanted something that could hold its shape on my back and when set down, but I didn't want one with padding all around. I started looking at traditional day packs, but this one caught my eye. It turned out to be a very good choice. It has good capacity (seems like you can just keep stuffing things into it), the back is just rigid enough, and I ended up really liking the reverse taper design...Being narrower at the bottom, it doesn't interfere with my camera bag. I think hikers in rough country would also find the shape to be practical.
Great Day Pack
After trying on many different packs, to use mainly for day hikes, I settled on this one. So far, I really like. Have taken it on about 5, 6-7 mile, moderate, autumn day hikes - carrying items for two. It's perfect. It's very compressible, and adjustable. The best feature is probably that the external compression straps on each side can be connected across the front of the pack to secure layers (or anything else) that do not make it into the pack itself; this feature alone sets it apart. The side pockets work well, drinks have not fallen out. The esternal front panel pocket is a bit stretchy and great for tossing in maps, phone/camera, gloves, hat. A 2L platypus bottle (without the hose) fits perfectly into the hydration pocket (a bigger one would fit.) This pack is tapered from the top down, it's a bit slimmer at the bottom - apparently to allow free arm movement.
Perfect Backpack
I bought this to replace an older pack for everyday use. I already have a Deuter backpack for serious hiking, so was familiar with the brand. After reading the reviews on this pack, I decided to try it for my everyday needs. It is absolutely perfect in every way!!! It's lightweight, attractive, easy to load, comfortable, and has lots of pockets to carry my small camera, wallet, glasses, phone, water, jacket, book, etc. I am petite (5' 1" 105 lbs) and the size is just right. It doesn't bounce around on my back and the tapered bottom puts most of the weight at the top, which is very comfortable and balanced. It almost feels as if I'm not even carrying a backpack---it's that light and well-designed. I can't say enough good things about this pack. Thank you to all the previous reviewers for giving such good information.
Wonderful Lightweight Daypack
Unbelievably comfortable pack that is well-thought-out and simply a joy to wear. The straps make it possible to strap on snowshoes, a jacket, even skis. It has a simple design and is ultra light, but is unique in that it has burly shoulder straps. I have not seen another 20ish-litre pack with shoulder straps as substantial as those on the Speed Lite 20. This means you can fully load the pack and not worry about the straps cutting into your shoulders. It's a true classic. The uniquely-designed shove-it pocket is another bonus as it protects your gloves, beanie, etc. from falling out or getting wet. It even has a built-in/concealed ice-axe loop. At just over a pound in weight, it is perfect to take in a larger backpack (perhaps as a sleeping bag stuff sack) to use as a summit pack.
