Marmot Helium Long Reviews:

Positive Reviews:

I bought this bad about 9 years ago? Maybe a little longer and I bought it because I was in the market for a down bag. I read many reviews at the time and decided to drop the serious dough on it. Since then I have used it in 10 degree temperatures never being cold except where the bag met the ground due to a bad choice of sleeping pads. You must have the right pad because where the down is compressed it is useless. I have used it in 40 degree temps though it starts to get a little too warm in the 60s but can still be used if adjusting how much of the bag lays on you above that. This bag is what turned me onto Marmot and 850+ down. Super lightweight and I have had this packed down to the size of two large grapefruit. You have to be a little careful with the zipper because it will get stuck on the material if you dont watch it. This bag has lost very few feathers by them sticking through maybe 10 I know of over 9 years. I am Large and it might be a little tighter than I like in the shoulder area but certainly not so bad I would ever give this bag up. After 9 years it shows no sign of wearing out. If you are on the fence, have the cash just buy it and thank me later. Note: ALWAYS store your down non-compressed. Long live Marmot.

I'm totally stoked to finally have a down sleeping bag. I cannot complain about the weight and compact size. It's awesome on those points. This thing kept me pretty warm, too, without much fuss at all (though I do recommend wearing socks). The first night at the trail head (Pine Creek, Sierra Nevada, in August), I was only in shorts and a T-shirt and stayed warm enough.
I was annoyed to see a few feathers come out over the course of my week-long trip. I'm not sure if that's typical for down bags. As some have mentioned, the zipper can be a little finnicky. I found careful placement of a finger while operating the zipper kept it from snagging. I got the regular size which worked for length (I'm about 5'10"), but there is not much room sideways. I'm a fairly slim guy but with somewhat broad shoulders. I was okay, but I think it could easily get tight if you're a larger fella (or maybe just a little uncomfortable because of feeling constricted). I'm a little concerned abou the durability of the stuff sack, particularly around the sinch cord. I'm thinking a little TLC while stuffing the bag should keep it in working order.
I slept under the stars a couple times and in a tent the rest of the nights. The drawstring worked great, and stayed pretty cozy. Overall, I'm very pleased with this bag.

I only gave this 4 stars because of pone big issue that kept haunting me every night of my first trip using this puppy. The zipper snags way too easily, and when all you want to do is get into a warm sleeping bag, it can be very tedious to zip up your bag.
That said... with that out of the way, I simply can not fault this bag one bit. It is comfortable, it is big, it has wide shoulders, and it stops cold wind from entering the sleeping bag.
If you are a warm sleeper, this bag may even be too hot for you!
The bag packs down smaller than any other bag that I have owned in the past, and weighs next to nothing too.
I am around 6 ft 2 in, have a lot of extra padding around the mid section, and I ended up purchasing the long bag, and that gives me plenty of room to wiggle around, plus extra room at the shoulders.
All in all, I don't think you can go wrong with this bag at all. Just mind the zipper!

Great bag

I've used this on some cool night backpacking and 1 snow summit backpack trip so far where it got down to about 20 and 30+ mph winds making big drafts in my 3 season tent. This bag is very warm. I was toasty at the temperatures mentioned but it did get a bit drafty with the wind. The neck doesn't cinch down much without the hood cinching a lot as well. This was great for the cold night overall but I'm not a huge fan of it being clinched down over my head to keep the wind out. With it over my head it was almost too warm so I guess i just gotta figure out what's going to work over time.

All in all. I'd buy this bag again.

lite, warm, and roomy

This too is one of my prized camping possessions. Super comfortable, warm and lite. Just what I was looking for to meet my camping and backpacking needs. It packs real small with the supplied staff sack. I use one that is slightly larger as I don't want to squeeze the life out of it. I'm 6'4", 230 lbs and this bag has all the comfort and room I desire. Add to that it's low-weight and this bag is ideal for the avid backpacker.

The only "con" I have is the zipper may tend to snag a little more frequently than with my other bags. A little attention to detail overcomes that problem.

One of the many Marmot products I own that deliver when it comes to quality and functionality.

Got this bag before heading to Ragnar's Trail Experiment. Never been camping for real before, got this on a recommendation from a friend. Anyway, the weather was cold and rainy, and I was toasty warm and comfortable. I know I'm just a newbie to camping, but this Bag was AWESOME, I think I'll go camping more now, just so that I can use this bag! Disclaimer: It was not snowing, but it was probably in the mid 30's in the night. The Bag performs as advertised. Of course, I was inside a tent with 4 other people and that probably contributed to keeping us warm, but the bag merits the 5 star review I'm giving. Oh, and the fact that it compresses to a small size doesn't hurt one bit.

I have used a zero degree bag (also Marmot) for several high sierra trips over the past several years and finally decided to get a cooler bag for July/August trips. I bought the Helium because it's light, but also because it packs small. It fits really well in my smaller backpack (59L). I was afraid it would not be warm, but have now used it down to 35 degrees and it was plenty warm. I'm 5'4" and it fits well. I have room to stuff some clothing to keep it warm for morning. Great bag and got a great price at Backcountry!

marp596206 at Backcountry.com on 08/13/2013

I got the long and at 6'3" 195 this bag could not be a better fit. Every night in this bag I have been comfortable. I tend to move a bit at night and this bag has never felt constricting. The worst mistake I made was wearing thick merino wool one 27degree night, ended up almost sweating..
There are fancier bags out there, but for the price/weight/warmth/pack size I like this bag the best.
Perfect fit to go in the bottom on a krestel 48l WITH my down vest/jacket.

Awesome bag

Hi, I used this bag for the last week of March in the Colorado high country and It was perfect. It is VERY warm and compacts down in a 10L compression sac. I was never cold, actually the opposite. The bag was so warm I opened it up and used it as a quilt. Given, I always slept inside an unheated shelter but still. This bag should be warm enough in all but the coldest conditions.
Rec Hiker at Campmor on 04/04/2011

snug and warm

One of my very favorite possessions. I don't know how it can be so warm, light and roomy all at once. I ordered this one and another good-quality brand that should have been equivalent, in order to compare and keep the better one. The difference between the loft in this one and the other was apparent immediately. This one was the keeper.

Neutral Reviews:

This is a basic bag. It is nice and roomy and opens pretty flat for a mummy bag. No draft collar. Draft tube is good. Zipper is better than some but still snags. Nothing fancy about the hood or bag in general. Material has a slippery feel. Seems pretty old tech to me.
