I have been searching for the perfect softshell for sometime. My bf has the ROM men's and loves it. I went into the local shop to try on this women's ROM. The fabric is great - light, durable, and warm. I'm 5'9" and marmot sizing says I should be a medium but it was too short in the torso. I wanted to use this jacket out hiking, snowshoeing, biking, etc. but when I raised my arms up the jacket pulled up showing my stomach. It also has lines across the chest area apparently to make it more feminine but on me it just awkwardly accentuated my chest area. I tried the large but it widened and lengthened and was too big. Solution -> I just bought the men's version in a small! It has a MUCH longer center back length and it still looks great. If you are tall try this jacket before purchasing. If you aren't tall this jacket is a great active softshell!
Breaths very well and is the perfect jacket for cold weather active events. Not very warm if you aren't generating a lot of heat, but does provide moderate warmth and great wind protection. Best if you are working up a sweat so I would not wear this to walk my dogs who stop and sniff every 2 feet! ;-) Size is right on and does not have over long sleeves. I am 5'4" 130 lbs and a M was perfect and snug enough to be shapely. Blue ice/cobalt color is great! Packable. I'd definitely buy it again.
I accidentally ordered this jacket instead of the OM ski jacket last season. Needless to say, I was a little bit disappointed when I opened the box and realized I had a fitted soft shell instead instead of a large, insulate ski jacket! However, after trying it on I decided to keep it due to it's flattering cut and lightweight, comfortable material. It has served as a great "in-between" season jacket, especially when the fall winds are blowing and you want some serious wind-protection either bike communing through town or hiking in the foothills.
Though I just purchased the ROM, it seems like it will be a very versatile jacket. It's nice for a cool summer or fall day. Also, it has proven to be water-resistant. I think it has a very attractive fit. I hope to get some use out of it for Spring skiing as well! So far very happy with it!
Love this jacket! Perfect for cross-country skiing and winter running/hiking. With the breathable panels there's no need to mess with pit zips. Did lots of research to find technical, form-fitting, hooded, bright (for visibility while running), affordable softshell and very pleased I settled on this one!
