Nikon Prostaff 5 Rangefinder Reviews:

Great value

Although this is my first rangefinder purchase, the guys I hunt with have several different brands and styles, most of which are fairly expensive. I've learned that with most rangefinders, the actual, field ranges are around half what the maximum range listed is. When I went to Cabelas to buy my rangefinder, it was gonna be between the Prostaf 5 and another brand of comparable price. The salesman told me he personally uses the Prostaff 5 and insisted that it's a true 600 yard rangefinder. I liked the feel and features of the Nikon, and since it was on sale, I gave it a try. As soon as I got home I went out and started ranging rocks, shrubs, shaded tree trunks, etc. I found that it instantly ranged everything out to 550 yards. Today I went to the shooting range. It accurately ranged targets at the 100 and 200 yard line, (the end of our range), and to my shock, even ranged rock outcroppings out to 600 and 660 yards. This was all in bright sunlight at pretty non-reflective targets, which are apparently the worst conditions for a rangefinder.
One of my buddies has a much, much more expensive rangefinder from a well known and reputable company that doesn't work nearly as well as this one.

great range finder

really clear optics. used it at 250 yards in the snow with no problems at all. i have no doubt it can reach out to the 600 yard claim. the backlight feature is not worth it, it floods the lense with light and you cant make out anything. but if youre using this for hunting, if you have to use the light up feature its probably too dark to make a legal shot. no major complaints from me and of course Cabelas had the best deal on it. money well spent.
