Poc Receptor Bug Helmet -

The Receptor Bug Helmet is created especially for snow sports. This adult helmet by POC is created with a patented system that has double overlapping shells that allows air in and heat out, all while protecting your head. Ventilation is also provided in the Receptor Bug helmet. It can be closed on colder days. The outer shell makes for tough and durable construction and provides excellent protection with the help from the in-mold liner. The Receptor Bug ski helmet offers a clean design created by POC. This helmet is also part of POC's BUG Series. The BUG series was developed to meet the demands of today's skiers that are stretching the limits beyond what was thought to be possible only a few years back. The BUG series was derived from POC's groundbreaking research and products on how to improve protection and performance. This is a great helmet, offering a sleek look and an abundance of comfort and protection.

Fabric:

  • In-Mold liner in polycarbonate and EPS offers a tough and durable construction

Fit:

  • A single-impact EPS liner maintains a low profile fit with all the impact shock absorption you need to stay safe

Ventilation:

  • The Ventilated Double Shell Anti Penetration technology allows air to flow between the inner and outer shell to create ample ventilation without compromising protection
  • Double-shell system is a Ventilated-Double Shell-Anti-Penetration (VDSAP) system. This system is built with double shells, placed offset for maximum penetration resistance and has channels in between to evacuate heat, moisture or water. The inner shell is an extremely thin in-mold shell, while the outer shell is a hard shell of ABS and PC.

Features:

  • POC joined an external ABS hard shell with an internal polycarbonate shell to create an exceptionally strong helmet that's lightweight
  • Aramid Reinforcement
  • Removable earpieces
  • Recommended with POC goggles but works with any brand

POC altered their popular four season Receptor helmet to create the snow-specific POC Receptor BUG Helmet which offers bombproof protection and style to boot. Merged hard-shell and in-mold construction creates a unique double-shell design with superior ventilation and the ability to protect your head against impact or penetration from sharp objects. Removable ear pads keep your ears warm on frigid days whether you take the Bug for a hike in the backcountry, or for a few laps in the park.

Poc Receptor Bug Helmet Reviews:

Positive Reviews:

I tried helmets from all the major manufacturers, and this one fit my head the best, despite the fact that I'm neither a Swede nor an alien (as far as I know). Your mileage may vary, of course. The sizes are definitely screwy, according to POC I'm a large, but the medium fit perfectly.
As others have mentioned, the goggle clip is really poorly designed. Mine came off and disappeared on the second day. I sent email to customer support at POC about buying additional ones, but have yet to get a response.
Strangely, the vents tend to resonate when the wind is blowing perpendicular to the direction you're facing. It's not a big deal, but it gets kind of loud on windy days.
Based on the fit alone, I'm quite happy with this helmet.

I have used this helmet for about 4 seasons now, and finally had to purchase a new one. Besides a few whacks which could have compromised the padding, the outer shell separated from the layer underneath it (all of the padding). It still works, but I had a Traumatic Brain Injury last September do not have any leeway with hitting my head again. This helmet is approved by both the EU standard and the ASTM standard for impacts, which is nice to know. I wear it with a beanie underneath and no earflaps and it fits perfectly. I removed some of the velcro padding they include, but that is all. Overall it is quite bomber, and is one of the few helmets I feel very safe in.

I got the Backe edition and in my humble opinion, it's the best looking design/color of all available Bug options. The design is so slick and clean, the only downside is since the shell has more of a shiny finish than the matte finish of others, the scratches seem to show up quick(er). As for the helmet itself, I love the simplicity in its construction (not to say the design isn't sophisticated, the double overlapping shells do seem to work very well controlling the heat inside the helmet without compromising its ability to protect against penetration), the durable materials, and lightness. My only gripe is the detachable clip for goggle straps (poor design, flimsy, etc.); I just do without it.

The POC Receptor Bug fits like your best ball cap. It is a helmet within a helmet. The design and safety features place it in a category few, if any other manufacturers can equal. Simply put, the helmet is akin to being the Volvo of brain buckets! The chin strap has a pad to keep the clip from rubbing under your chin. The straps are adjustable. The padding on the back of the neck will not fall off after extended use like it does in some other popular helmets. The color is cool and will never be the object of ridicule by your homies.

I just got this helmet, and I absolutely love it. It fits my head great (I measure 58cm and I got the XL, which works perfect with a beanie and goggles underneath). It also of course interfaces with POC goggles exceptionally well (I use the Lobes personally). The helmet does a great job protecting the noggin and looking mighty fine while doing so. Love the ventilation, and overall really love this helmet!

I tried to love the Receptor Bug, the Receptor+, and the Fornix. The construction is second to none and the features are amazing, yet they all didn't quite fit my dome. The POC fit is more of a circular shape, and my noggin is apparently more oval shaped. It was a shame, because these helmets are awesome.

Very comfortable and warm enough that you don't need a hat. The helmet strap sucks but with a little superglue it has stayed put. Average size head and medium fit like a glove. Usually use Electric EG goggles and theres no gap. Ear flaps stay on your ears.

This helmet rocks! So comfortable and warm, but not too hot when hiking and touring. It vents surprisingly well! And I love the kick ass colors. It does tend to run a bit small.

I received this helmet in the mail a few days ago and was blown away at how well this helmet is built. I would recommend this helmet to anyone.

Great helmet, and super comfortable. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who's trying to keep their brains intact.

nice look, good quality but odd fit

POC helemets have a very round fit. Both my helmet and my daughter's fit terribly. Gaps lateral but my head can't even get into a XXL. I tried adjustable or non without any luck in the receptor bug. I wear a 57cm fitted baseball cap and fit easily into a giro or anon large helmet with a liner. My 7 year old daughter wears a kids medium salamon helmet comfortably but the women's medium receptor bug doesn't get on her head with a liner. Love skis.com but you need the right head shape for these helemts.
