Don't leave home without these!

Friends. I have been using Smartwool liner gloves for at least 8 years now, ever since I attended a Winter Mountaineering class in the ADKs. Among other things, that class stressed the importance of having liners and never, never, never taking them off and exposing your bare hands to the cold (it was below zero F during the day that weekend, but (in my experience) this advice applies whenever it is below 20° F). They did NOT endorse any particular glove but I have tried a wide variety of different ones and have ended up using nothing but the Smartwool liners. I wear mine underneath fleece mittens which I wear inside Outdoor Research or Black Diamond mitten shells. Under these conditions they work very well. I seldom use them as my only layer. Yes, they tend to be fragile if you are wearing them as your outermost layer. But as a liner glove they help keep your hands dry and warm. Given their material (loosely woven wool) they do wear out much faster than my fleece mittens (which wear out almost never) and the outer mittens (which despite heavy use also almost never wear out). However, I own 2-3 pairs at all times and only replace these once every 3-4 years.

This is a great liner, warm and light. With sweaty hands, you will want something like Merino Wool in case they get cold again. I do not have the touch screen version but I don't use a phone when I snowboard. The only problem is they will wear out fast if not used solely as liners. Also don't touch velcro or it will chew away the wool fibers. Mine has a hole in the thumb so I can use a lighter ;) In the 30s with mittens on, your hands will sweat but these are great for super cold temps. I also use these with OR Windstopper shell gloves sometimes to bulk them up. 4 stars for durability and high price to fabric weight ratio. Worth it though.

Good for jogging, don't touch anything!

I'm fairly new to cold-weather running but I'm liking these gloves. They don't block wind very well but they DO hold in warmth and they're excellent at wicking sweat and staying dry during my run. Below 28 degrees or so they'll definitely need to be replaced with something a little heavier with additional wind resistance.

They are VERY fragile, however. Stay away from velcro especially and don't plan on using them for any other purpose. They're made well, make no mistake, the material itself is just extremely susceptible to fraying and fuzzing.

Overall a good glove that's perhaps priced a tad high for their expected lifespan, but does what they're supposed to do in the meantime.

They do the job

I bought two of this, one for myself and one for hubby, he loves it. I'm more hard to please but I love them too. While all other ladies were looking for nice looking gloves, I was reading the "material" tags of each, this are wool so I was sold (I was at -18C). Hubby wears his alone; I wear mine under my weather proof mittens (-18C is no joke) and even when i remove my geese-feather mittens, this wool gloves kept my fingers warm, I also like I could browse my phone without having to remove them. Hubby uses a cellphone from the '90s, he has no use for the touchscreen function of the gloves :)

I've been buying SmartWool liner gloves just about every Winter for the past decade. These keep your hands toasty even when wet (hooray wool!).
Their construction, for the most part, is solid, but be forewarned, that just the smallest tear or cut can cause these to quickly unravel. If you're planning on doing any "work" whether it's carrying wood for a fire or carrying your skis to the lift, use an outer glove to avoid demolishing these.
While I realize that these are "liner" gloves and not meant for "heavy lifting", their construction can be brought into question just in the slightest. Otherwise, almost perfect, that's why I keep buying them!

Work great as liner gloves

Used product as inner liners for my leather gloves in my causal wear and dress wear. They were outstanding. Also used as inner liners for outdoor activities like hiking, backpacking, and outside work inside winter gloves and inside working gloves. They worked perfect for keeping my hands warm and to assist the outer layer gloves in keeping the cold out. If I needed to use my cell phone, I would take the outer layer gloves off and use my liner gloves. When finished I would put the outer layer on to work with the liners.

Good - but fragile

warm enough alone for spring/fall - purchased primarily for around the campsite morning and evening, dog walking, and perhaps in the tent on cold nights! Expect to use as a glove liner when it gets really cold. The touchscreen feature is nice and mostly works. A bigger patch of it on the thumb would be helpful.
WARNING - keep away from velcro - especially on jacket pockets. It will snag and pull the wool very easily.

Great for cool weather/Liner Gloves

I mostly use this product as my primary gloves when its between 32-40. I like the Capacitive touch that is new to this model. I also wear them as liners when its below 20 or when mountain or road biking in the cold. My one knock against these great gloves is my previous pair did not last 2 seasons. However they are sold as Liners and I wear them as primary gloves most of the time.

Wooly Hands

I got this in late fall and wear them everyday in the winter. For most activities I find them plenty warm and extremely comfortable. After wearing them daily for a few months I have seen a bit of wear but still very intact.
I wouldn't suggest them for grip heavy endeavors or high friction grip as they are still made from woven fibers and woven fibers, not matter how strong aren't indestructible.

Good liners

I work outside all winter and needed a pair of liner gloves that will stay warm if they get wet. These do the trick by not adding bulk and allowing me to wear a pair of nitrile exam gloves over them. As an added bonus, I can use my smartphone while wearing both layers of gloves. They won't keep your hands warm at all temps, but they are a great base layer.

Negative Reviews:

Got the gloves as a gift for my boyfriend... turned out they were too big and tried to return them. After sending the box back with the tag and everything, nothing misplaced or broken, they give me $12.50 back in store credit. I paid exorbitant amounts of money for these because they looked the nicest, but there's no way I am going to pay an extra ten bucks (in total spending FORTY DOLLARS) for these gloves. This website's refund policy is twisted.

Won't last long

Although these are warm and work well as a liner, they wear out quickly. The fabric snags easily. You can barely put a pair of gloves on over them without snagging and ending up with a hole. Within a month I had holes in 3 fingers. Tried sewing up and made them last longer but the holes keep coming. You're better off spending the extra money for a good pair.

Epic Fail

I own dozens of Smart Wool products, so I thought these gloves were a great idea and would live up to Smart Wool's standard of excellence. I was proven wrong after 2 months of use! The gloves developed holes, I stitched them up, and new holes have recently developed which make them worthless. I've only had them 3 months.

Overpriced, Under Performance

Purchased glove for day hikes, developed holes on inner finger quickly. Breathable and warm, but not worth the price

Expected more from Smartwool

Holes started to form after first use. Very disappointed in this product.

Did buying these help me?

I bicycle a couple miles to my suburban train station. Coldest days are low 30s / high 20s. I have a pair of leather gloves with a thin liner that are just a bit too thin to keep my fingers from aching when I'm riding. I got these liners to help provide a bit more warmth, but honestly was not sure if they really helped me that much. Granted, the gloves I wear over are pretty tight, so it could be that the wool's insulative properties were not able to be realized. I found that, rather than using them as a liner, they felt better used alone as a light glove for walking around town.

Amazing gloves but not durable

I bought the previous year version of these gloves.

I loved these gloves. They were very soft, very comfortable, and pretty warm. In fact, I wore them everyday (walking short distances, commuting to/from work) as my only gloves instead of using them as a liner.

However, a couple months into winter season, the gloves started to develop holes. By 3 months into it, the gloves were useless as most of fingers were exposed.

Its a shame it couldn't last the whole winter at least, because I did find the liner/gloves to one of the better pairs I've ever owned.
