Good Workhorse

This is a great iron for everyday use. Good thick base, better than a wax mouse, gets hot enough for fluoros.

Negative Reviews:

VERY UNHAPPY

I use this as my primary wax iron and I'm ready to toss it out the window. It will not stay hot enough for long enough to make a full pass from tip to tail on the ski. You will have to wait halfway down the ski for the eliment to kick on and heat back up so the little red light goes out and you know your hot enough again. This is super annoying and slow and just plain WRONG when you want to wax and go ski. The clip on the top front that's supposed to hold the wax paper fell off and I had to glue it back into place. Spend the extra ching and get a Toko or Swix digital and be happy when you wax. It's VERY important to have consistent temps on your iron and this thing doesn't even get it in the ball park. I find it hard to believe Swix made such a poor product, actually.

Don't buy

Got this as a gift for Christmas 2011. I think the design is good, but it worked once and then never got hot enough again to melt wax. The red indicator light never worked again either. The instructions were not very detailed either - like what is the proper use of the detachable clamp on the front? I really did not need that feature. Maybe I just got a statistical outlier, but this was a big disappointment.

OK, but not great

I've had this iron two years and it has been serviceable, but not great. The temperature setting is hard to see and the sole plate seems thin. It's easy to accidentally change the temperature. I removed the front clip because I don't use it. This week I knocked it off the bench and it is acting up--completely my fault and not the product. While I'm trying to find out if it can be repaired I bought the considerably cheaper Toko T8 to get by. Whoops, it's a better iron: thicker grooved sole plate, it beeps when you plug it in, the temperature setting is easier to see, the temperature can't be inadvertently changed, and there are two heating/at temperature LEDs that are easier to see. Considering the alternatives, Swix needs to do better.
