Part of The North Face Summit Series, the Thunder Micro Jacket is a great way to stay super warm and cozy as you carve the frontside of the mountain. With all the features and style it's no wonder it's one of the best sellers in the series. Outfitted with 800 Fill Goose Down, you can expect superior warmth with the heat being trapped inside the jacket so you never get cold. But don't worry about getting overheated, the FlashDry panels increase the comfort by helping to remove the moisture and sweat from inside the jacket and on your skin so you remain dry and warm even when you're pushing your body to the max. A water-resistant finish helps prevent the wintry precipitation from seeping in and a Pertex Quantum exterior means that you'll have the tough exterior that is both windproof and abrasion resistant. Whether you're battling the backcountry in the dead of winter, alpine climbing or just cruising the groomers, this versatile North Face Thunder Micro Jacket has the insulation for warmth and exterior for style to always leave you feeling your best so you can perform at your best.

Freezing with a pair of crampons or skis under your feet is never fun. Get The North Face Men's Thunder Micro Jacket and never sacrifice warmth for space again. Its FlashDry technology at the underarms pushes your sweat away from you while you hike up the mountain and disperses it quickly for lightning-fast drying. When you get to the top, the 800-fill down insulation warms your torso, and this down is water-resistant so you don't have to worry about losing the warmth if it gets a bit damp. The nylon micro-ripstop shell breathes and resists abrasion so you can wear this ski-touring in winter and backpacking in early spring.

The Thunder Micro has an alpine fit to reduce bulk as much as possible without restricting your movement. It's so compressible that you can stuff it in its own pocket and clip it to your harness for easy access at the top. Two hand-warmer pockets have a lot of space, and you can even access them with a harness or pack on.

The North Face Thunder Micro Jacket Reviews:

Positive Reviews:

Needed a down jacket for the winter and wanted something packable, lightweight, and warm. This jacket met all my criteria and has a really good athletic fit that easily fits under a soft-shell or hard-shell. The FlashDry under the arms works nicely when it's worn as a mid-layer and also removes any annoying seams that might dig into your armpits. As a standalone, it works well in 30 degrees with a bit of wind but anything much colder and you might feel a breeze with the FlashDry venting. At 5'8", 140lbs, 37" chest, wearing a Medium, I can comfortably fit a fleece and a base layer underneath if it's worn as an outer layer or just for added warmth. Nice to see TNF hasn't lost their Summit Series touch. For other reviews, see the Catalyst by TNF as well since it's the Thunder with a hood.

So far so good

I will say the fit is great and its kept me warm on some pretty cold days. We have had a blast of cold and snow in the northeast this year and i decided to try this out on one of our coldest days with a scarf a hat and a light sweater… i walk the streets of nyc quite a bit so i am constantly hit with crazy wind gusts between the buildings that line the streets and i must say this jacket holds up great. i cannot say that i was cold and it has held up great with moisture as well keeping me dry. My only complaint is the fill is starting to come out in some spots, but not major so far… i love the color and have gotten several compliments. Good Stuff!

New to the Face

I have always been a Spyder guy but during this polar vortex we just lived through made me realize that I can have warmth and light weight at the same time with this jacket. The jacket wears so easily it feels like the weight of a spring jacket with the warmth of a big down coat. This is my first Northface jacket and I am very impressed. I am 6'5' 245lbs and no longer have my college balling days figure but not in bad shape and the jacket fits me like a glove. I hated wearing my big bulky Spyder and trying drive in it. Virtually impossible but with this jacket, no issues.

Light as air

Very comfy jacket! Feels like you're not wearing anything at all. Definitely not like the old bulky down jackets I have had in the past. Haven't tested it for warmth yet but planning on wearing it under my skiing shell this winter. I love the ideas of stretchy material under the armpits to help regulate heat. It is worthy the price in my mind.

Nice update!

I previously had the Thunder Jacket and decided to buy this Micro Thunder because I really liked how the micro had the flash dry and ventilation under the arm pits. This jacket is somewhat less puffy which is cool and the pockets of insulation are configured differently for an equally warm coat!! I would recommend this for sure!!

He says: it's great for cool'ish, to somewhat cold conditions, provided you stay very active. He compares it to a insulated flannel shirt! If you STAY very active while wearing it, it's o.k....but it's not a stand-alone winter jacket. It's also not wind/water proof.
Good for driving, light hiking, shopping, etc.
Perfect for layering.

Debbie Conti at Backcountry.com on 09/07/2013

Very warm for such a light weight jacket. Fit is good. Makes a great layer for really cold conditions or outer layer for milder temps. Mostly used for skiing, hiking, outdoor winter sports. So far seems fairly breathable. Haven't had to test it's warmth when wet.

Comfortable, Warm Jacket

I purchased this jacket to use as a mid-layer for my 2013 Freethinker jacket. I like how the elastic bands on the wrist make a comfortable, snug fit. Pros:
+ Warm
+ Lightweight
+ Very comfortable Cons:
- Stitching seems a little loose in baffles
- There are gray, lower quality feathers that work their way out of jacket (I didn't expect those in a 800 fill jacket.) I may have to return a second jacket after three weeks of use because some stitching is starting to come out. I have returned one jacket already to the store, as threads became loose and unraveled near the arm pits. This jacket has loose stitching near the wrist. My friend had the Catalyst Micro jacket (same jacket, but with hood) from Fall 2012 and his has held up much better, so not sure if something changed with manufacturing in this version.

bad quality

I purchased this jacket to use as a main jacket. I like how the elastic bands on the wrist make a comfortable, snug fit.
Pros:
+ Warm
+ Lightweight
+ Very comfortable
Cons:
- Stitching seems a little loose in baffles
- There are gray, lower quality feathers that work their way out of jacket (I didn't expect those in a 800 fill jacket.)
I returned the jacket after 1 day use because some stitchings are loose, threads became loose and unraveled near the zipper, feather were coming out.
I don't expect this type of low quality in a high-end product.
I have several North Face jacket before and don't encountered any issue.
