best tent ever! for 3 seasons.

1. the mesh top is great. it has great ventalation, i don't think you could find a better summer tent. on potentially rainy nights you can fold 1/2 of the rain fly over so that you & your partner can jump out quick & fasten down the other 1/2 to avoid getting soaked, while still enjoying the breeze if stays nice all night.
2. i got this tent twice. the first time i set it up at my camp site to test my water-proofing job and left it in the pouring rain for 3 days. it didn't collect water at all (i also have the foot print). after inspecting it at the end of the 3rd day of rain, i left it up for 2 days to dry real good before i put it away. when i went back to get it, i found that a bear had destroyed it and left it in a pile with mangled poles. i contacted the north face (tnf) and asked about a warranty. they had me send it in and notified me that bear attacks aren't covered, but they'd give me 50% off another tent. so i got this one again, since i was very pleased with the space (for 2), comfort, and construction. and i still had my rain fly from the bear attack tent (killed the mesh, killed the poles, but the water-proof rainfly is still holding strong!).
3. 2 doors and storage vestibules are great! a pocket on each side of the door (making 4 total) and 1 over head are nice.
4. very easy to set up. the girl friend and i can have if fully assembled in under 5 mins easy. you can also set it up with out the mesh body part, but i personally like misquito net
5. no complaints. make sure you water-proof it. i guess maybe the rainfly could cover the corners better, but that might just be me needing to adjust it better?

Great Tent, I highly recommend it

My first tent was a NorthFace Lightspeed Long that i purchased around 15 years ago in middle school and still works great. However I did grow a bit since then and it became too small, especially with bringing my GF camping. I researched a bunch of tents and decided the Rock 32 was the best choice for me. I've had it on 2 camping trips so far and the tent has been beyond wonderful. The 1st trip was perfectly sunny and the 2nd one was rainy. The tent was great in both situations. On the rainy trip not a single drop of water got inside and there was no water soaking through the floor underneath our sleeping pads in the morning.
I'm 6'1 and have plenty of room to sit up comfortably inside the tent without having to slouch. It sleeps 2 people comfortably and you could definitely fit a 3rd inside too or all your gear. The tent is super easy to setup. All rolled up, with the poles seperate, it fits just fine inside my external frame pack with all my other gear. It seems to vent really well. The built in gear loft seems very sturdy and holds alot of stuff. The 2 doors and vestibules are great too.

Over all I think I'd have to give it a 5/5 rating and am lookin forward to gettin another 15+ years out of it. Once you buy Northface, you'll never buy anything else.

Great first use, bigger trials to come.

With a young family it had been several years since we were in the back-country. Because this was my first back-country trip with my 2 sons (ages 9 and 5)I was looking for a tent that was good quality, would keep us dry, and had plenty of interior space. I found most of these qualities in the Rock 32...it didn't rain on us so I don't know about the dry part, although I don't have doubts. My son (9 yo) carried his gear and the tent and if his arms were a little longer could have and would have set the tent up himself. We left our shoes in the vestibules but had enough room inside for the three of us and our backpacks. I'm 6 ft tall and was only a little inconvenienced with packs at our feet the first night. The seond night I made certain that the packs were at the feet of the boys and we all slept quite well. My 9yo got up one night to visit mother nature and had no difficulties with the tent or rain fly (two doors were a plus). With the fly open, we had no condensation. One night the temp dropped low enough that we zipped the fly tight and did have condensation on the inside of the fly in the morning. I'm confident that we'd have enough space for 4 if my 11 yo daughter joined us on the next overnighter.

Stay Dry

This tent is fairly easy to setup with just two main poles and 1 pole for the rainfly. I have camped in this tent atleast a dozen times. It has performed well in the windiest and wetest conditions. It packs light when you split he gear up among 2 peole on a long hike.
As an Assistant Scoutmaster, I purched 3 more for the Troop since I know they are durable and will last for many years to come.

My only suggestion is to buy a set of strong stakes. The stakes that come with the tent bend very easily. Also a ground cloth is available for this tent.

Easy up easy down

I will be using this tent for camping during the "Run for the Wall" on my Harley trike. I practiced setting it up in my basement and it was very easy. The vestibules need to be staked otherwise they just flop around. It was only a matter of minutes to pack it back in the bag. Plenty of room for 2 but 3 would have to be really good friends. I have not used it yet in the wind or rain but will let you know what I think then. If it does well I will give it a 5 star.

Light and well ventilated

The all mesh body makes the tent light and offers great ventilation. No condensation issues yet even with fly attached. So far only used for yard camping, but has weathered several spring rainfalls with winds up to 20 mph with no problems. Nice gear loft for small items and plenty of side pockets. Three things that could be better: The supplied tent stakes are inadequate and should be replaced with better ones. The fly has an attached pole and is difficult to position. The supplied directions aren't very good. They could use more detail.

Roomy.

Really a crawl-in tent for the size because of the fly design (I am 6'4" - and it seems more difficult to get into than our Rock 22). Plastic fly door toggles and the fly pole end-connectors will probably be the weakest parts of the tent.
But - this tent is roomy and has nice space under the fly vestibule. It vented well on the beach at Padre. I wouldn't pack it up a mountain but it is really nice for car camping. We were glad we got it for the trip.

Stands up to storms

I have owned this tent for several years and dozens of nights setup in the outdoors. It has been through a few storms. This tent withstood even one where the winds were up to 40MPH. I have always stayed dry. The tent is very roomy for two adults and the vestibules on each side are spacious enough for backpacks and shoes. The built in loft has generous space to store your essentials. I purchased after market stakes since the ones that come with the tent are useless.

Great 3 man tent!

This is a great tent for short to moderate length backpack trips. The size was comfortable for myself and 2 teen boys. Set up was a snap particularly the integrated fly pool. We stayed perfectly dry in an all night rain storm. The full mesh tent body kept the tent cool with no morning condensate to speak of. Double doors are a must for a 3 man tent! The only minor issue was the custom foot print didn't have flaps for the vestibule areas.

so far so good

purchased to have a warm weather tent for three. sleeps well, all that mesh allows for cooling when any sort of a breeze is blowing. would have preffered the glow in dark zip pulls from my Big Frog and the brow pole 'baseball' caps are flimsy IMO. set up is a snap, plenty of room for three to strech out. note that head space is limited. plan on laying down when you are inside.

Decent all-around tent

I'd rate the tent more 3.5 stars. It's a good easy to set up tent, fairly sturdy under rain and wind, but with some gotchas and concerns. I used this tent on a 15 mile overnighter in moderate rain and wind. First concern noticed was with the fly's plastic "baseball" catches. Don't like this design, if it ever breaks, field repair is not really possible and the fly's ability to repeal rain efficiently will be compromised. Secondly, the vestibules are a bit small for backpacks. Boots and such are fine, but backpacks will require leaning against the tent as opposed to the vestibule to prevent from falling to the outside. This pushes part of the tent inwards which reduces some available interior space. When it rains, be careful about leaving the fly open on any side. Even if the rain does not directly enter from the exposed opening, the black latch that holds the rolled fly catches rain and drips directly inside the tent. We needed the fly open as ventilation was pretty bad, it would have been better to zip it down partially instead. Lastly, granted it was a humid night we camped in, but in the morning, the interior side of the fly was dripping massive amounts of condensation. Some form of hooded opening at the top, like on some tents, would have allowed a bit more ventilation and reduce this execessive condensation. Having said all that, the tent would be good under most conditions, just learn its limitations and work around them.
