The North Face Simple Bivy Review:

Bivy

I like the weight and design. I hope the waterproof fabric works. But i need some nasty mountain weather to field test it properly and it will be awhile before we can count on that around in the pacific northwest as it is the height of our short but nice summer.
My big concern is that it is mostly a bivy sack for people who live in dry warm places like Calfornia because it has no insulation between the person and the ground at all. It will be ok if you can find a dry place to lay it down on as then heat loss will not be quite so bad. So my opinion is that it really is a semi-bivy sack in that you need to carry along a sleeping pad to make it into a truly functional bivy. But I think it is a lot better than a space blanket I carried for many years as my emergency shelter.
