A departure for Asolo
The Piumas are light at ~16-17 ozs each, depending on size. The soles are flexible to allow the foot to move naturally while the suede/nylon mesh uppers provide decent ankle support. The toe box is fairly wide, while the heels cradle my narrow heels well.
Waterproofness is a controversial subject. I do both day hikes and long-distance hikes, and the latter often find me hiking for days in wet, rainy environments. No waterproof boot is going to stay dry out there, but they will take forever to dry once wet.
While the Piumas will allow moisture to get in, they breath really well too. And when they do get wet, they dry quickly.
They do not have much cushion in the foot bed, and I'll be wearing thick sole hiking socks with them.
These fill a niche between trail-runners, and traditional backpacking boots. They'll serve both the day hiker in dry conditions, and the light backpacker on a wet long trail well.
I just received these boots in the mail and tried them on to walk around for a bit. They're extremely comfortable and they provide great balance. The ankle support is superb. Good tread on the bottom appears like it will last a while.
The lace system is good and easy to tighten. Looking forward to take them out on a hike this weekend, will update the review immediately after.
As an extra, they look good too.

Lightweight and comfortable however within two weeks of use, albeit strenuous use, in rocky terrain one of the boots took an inch long gash clean through the shoe where the upper meets the sole. Still fine in dry conditions, but problematic for any wet terrain. Not sure if bad luck or poor design, but disappointing nonetheless.
