I'm 6'1" 180-185 athletic build. I ordered the Renegades in 32/32 Khaki. I'm a hiker, a fisherman and a world traveler.. I have deemed these pants, "the Europe Pants".
No seriously, I'll be taking these babies as my only pair of pants to Europe/Morroco/UK/West Middle East for a year. I think this highly of them.
After ordering these, the Arteryx Gamma LTs (loved them, no light colors) and Ramparts, some ORs of similar material/weight, the Prana Zion (great pants, bad fit on me) and Patagonia Rock Crafts, I sent them all back to Backcountry and kept these.
Great fabric, a wonderfully well-built pant. Good pockets, like the simplicity. Length is good and longer than expected because often 32 inseam is too short for me. Very nice fit. The waist is literally perfect.
Anyhow, I'm looking forward to putting lots of time in them and miles on them, I know they'll be great for it all. I can't tell you how much I love the material (a little thinner than the Prana Zion material but similar feel) as its so light but handles cold well. I call these 4 season because they're sun protection in the summer (obviously spring and fall they're ideal pants) and in winter they handle a good bit of it fine but I wear 'em on the slopes with a good base underneath. The DWR is thick on these babies, I've gotta sit in the snow to get clam cheeks.
Oh! And my only complaint is the color. It's not really a "Khaki" at all, more of an olive or pewter. A nice color but definitely not khaki.
Thanks Backcountry for being epic, as always. I'll be looking into more of Kuhl's stuff!
Khul is an amazing company. I think they figured something out a long time ago when they started to incorporate articulated knees and a gusseted crotch in their pants. These simple features make the pants move with your body. This is something a lot of others don't do. This particular pant is, in my opinion, ideal for warmer weather. They breathe just as good as your body does. Apart from a convertible pant these are the one's you want on your body when your hiking in the summer, or hacking your way through a rain forest in the jungle. The cell phone pocket is perfect for an iphone or android. I have never had issues with it falling out. The Khul line of pants is solid as a whole. You won't go wrong with any of their products. All of that being said if your looking for a non-convertible pant for warmer weather it's hard to beat this one.
I'm a filmmaker and have two pair of these pants. I wear these when I'm on set and when I do documentary work. They are very lightweight and when I'm in very warm climates they protect my legs as well as keep my cool.
Another great aspect is the stain resistant material. I've had coffee, soft drinks and wine spilt on them yet not a stain on them! The wick water very easily and dry very quickly. This is important to me as there are many instances where I'm filming in inclement weather so at the end of the shooting day I need them to be ready by the next morning!
Because they are lightweight material packing these pants take up very little room. I'm able to take two weeks of clothes in a single carryon size piece of luggage thanks to these pants. Highly recommended!
I recently bought these from KUHL's website since Backcountry.com does not carry them in a 34 inch inseam. They're extremely flexible, true to size, and the pockets are right where you'd expect them to be. I have only used the Renegades a few times, but I can already tell that they're by far better than my Marmot, and North Face hiking pants. They also look great when going out to casual restaurants/bars etc...
While I also love my Columbia Cool Creek pants, I place these slightly above them because there is a little extra room (width) in the legs, which provides greater flexibility/movement. It may be because I have chicken legs, but still for someone who's 6'1, 180 pounds with a 33 waist they fit great.
I've ordered several pairs of Kuhl shorts and trousers now and while the quality and feel is really good, the problem is the sizing. It seems to be all over the place.
First of all I'm a size 32 waist in Levis, and prety much any trousers, have been for years.
I bought shorts size 32 and they fit ok, a bit on the slack side but ok.
I also bought trousers, size 32, miles too big even with a belt.
So I took a punt and ordered some more shorts and trousers size 30.Sad to say they are way too tight. So my recommendation would be to try in a shop before ordering on line. Would have given 5stars but for the sizing inconsistency.
Bought these pants for some 14er bagging over the summer. They exceded my expectations in every way. They are far more flexible than you'd expect. They are warm enough to stand alone against high winds, and you can roll up the ankles to use them as shorts when it gets warmer. Also, the two zippered mesh pockets can be left open as vents when you're not using them. Lastly, they are very durable, I put them through a lot over the summer and they seem like new.
Love these pants. My one complaint is that the interior button fell off the second pair I bought. I sowed it back without issue. The pants are excellent for lite hiking although not sturdy enough to hit the heavy stuff. I don't do a lot of climbing so others will have to chime in on that. Overall, I really love these pants--super comfortable, good looking, and they can be worn in any weather aside from major cold.
I absolutely love these pants! i use them for everything, from climbing in the gym to backpacking on the AT and going around town in every season. They keep you nice and cool and when its cold just wear some long underwear. super stretchy but also tough. mine looks pretty beat up on the knees and thighs but it still works like a champ!
Perhaps a nice, cool, summer pant. Upon arrival I was stoked, used them musky fishing in a light mist/rain with air temp around 70 degrees and I was really impressed with the how comfortable they were and how good the dwr was-not wet at all. The following week I began using these for trail use and within 4 days the pants looked like they went to world war III. Stitching fell out in numerous places, and the fabric began to fray and fuzz where brush had been beating on them. I figured the similar fabric specs made them a good replacement for my Patagonia rock climb (not sure actual name, 2010 model) convertible pants, as I got 2.5 years of solid beating use out of them (about 300 field days, all weather and heavy rock/brush). I figured wrong. Feel bad for the fella going to Europe as he might need to buy some new pants mid trip if he plans on any forest/mountain excursions. Bought 32, fit perfect (I'm a 32).
