Great Shoe

I have climbed in these 8 - 10 times and would definitely recommend them to anyone looking for a great all-around shoe. They are very comfortable and I generally leave them on (barring untying just to cool off) for 2+ hours of toproping or bouldering. I really like that the laces go all the way down to the toes since it allows for a better fit.

TRY THESE ON BEFORE BUYING! I wear a size 10 (wider-than-average forefoot) running sneaker and ended up getting these in size 40 (7.5). They were definitely snug (but certainly not painful) at first and now have a perfect fit; I'm actually a bit concerned that they might keep stretching out.

My one main criticism: La Sportiva is pretty wonky in terms of sizing on this model and the fact that I am at the bottom end of their range (size 40 was the smallest EMS had in the store) makes me wonder what a guy with a size 8 would do, buy the female version?!

Legend

I couldn't let this should get a bad rap from one dissatisfied costumer. There is a reason this is one of the most popular shoes among climbers of all skill levels. This shoe can tackle just about any form of climbing you can think of. It's very adjustable and very comfortable. Comfort however, can be it's greatest weakness just as it is it's greatest strength. The shoe will break in a lot and stretch. I would advise sizing down smaller than you're used to. Overall, I'd say this is one of the best shoes you can buy.

The best shoe I could buy

I was having the hardest time finding the right shoe....they all seemed to hurt me above the big toe. When I tried on the Mythos I wasn't sure if I was asleep or awake. They felt more comfortable then my sneakers, and on the wall, they provide the performance to back up their hefty price. I wouldn't recommend them for bouldering because there is no overtoe, so you're limited on your level of skill. But on vertical ascents, I'm convinced this shoe cannot be beat because of its quality and most importantly, it's unbelievable comfort.

possibly the perfect shoe

in the past 15 years I have had 10 pairs of shoes and I always end up wearing the mythos. unlined and laced to the toes so it literally molds itself to your foot after a bit, they stretch a bit w/time so go a little small. used on long trad routes, sport, bouldering and gym. they are great for all , amazingly comfortable and great performance. my idea of the perfect shoe. one downside; they are so soft beginners with weak feet/toes will get tired quickly.

Good Shoes - I'm on my 5th pair of Mythos' and they are without a doubt the best all-around shoe out there. They fit snugly enough for hard stuff yet are comfy enough for all-day adventures. Their only problem is that they have an amazing propensity to stretch - my first pair was a 42.5 that fit snugly and I'm now down to a 40.5 that has stretched out nicely. (I wear an 11 normally.) So fit these shoes TIGHT cause they will stretch!

beautiful construction, very comfortable

Awesome shoes; nice cut, soft leather; perform just as intended. Only fallback for me is that a more aggressive design can be helpful on more challenging moves - but again this is a point of personal style and preference; overall the comfort is unsurpassed. A snug fitting pair of these will offer top of the line comfort and performance. Definitely recommended overall if you do not require a very serious arch.
DP in DC at Eastern Mountain Sports (EMS) on 06/06/2011
These are all day comfortable, for big walls and multi pitch, but also aggressive enough to tackle some 5.10-5.11c and V6's with out wishing for a more aggressive point. The do stretch, but because they are leather and natural color you don't end up with weird looking stinking feet, I wear a 9.5 to 10 depending on the brand and wear the 41.5 in the mytho's.

great trad shoe

love this shoe! best trad shoe ive used. very comfortable for all day climbs where youre going to be in your shoes for an extended time. problem is they are a leather shoe and will stretch a bit. so size appropriately. been very durable and rubber holds up well. i am hard on my gear, these are doing very well! super pleased.

Good Shoe

pretty decent shoe, the only brand the fits my size 8 1/2 foot nicely. I use it out on new England rocks and it sticks well. Havent had it long enough to tell the durability of it but so far so good. The ability to crank down just a little more with the loops at the laces was nice. Good Shoe
Andy at Eastern Mountain Sports (EMS) on 09/09/2006

Good Fits

Like having the slight quarter size difference between the mens (bigger) and womens Mythos, to get to choose between having toes fully flat (to slice better into foot/toe jams on crack routes) or slightly scrunched up. I own both the mens and womens 41.5, and also even tighter-fitting and stiffer sport climbing shoes with toes fully scrunched up.

Negative Reviews:

Good starting shoe

This shoe is good if your just getting your first pair of shoes and are not that into climbing yet. They are good crack climbing shoes and they are good if you want something comfortable but thats not all the time what you need when you start getting into more advanced climbs. They felt good and tight when i first bought them but they stretched out a lot more then i thought they would so it kinda feels like i'm just wearing a normal shoes so i don't get the support i want when i'm on jibs or tight spots. They are really good for smearing and other things like that but if you are more of a technical or aggressive climber then I wouldn't recommend these.
Gav at Rock/Creek Outfitters on 12/12/2010
This shoe is poorly designed which leads to great discomfort. The shoelace eyelid by the toes is metallic and presses against the toes which leads to great pain. Further, they rust over time which doesn't help the problem.
