I've always been a big fan of the MHW softshells but their offwidth jackets are cut way to short in the torso. Decided to try the Marmot Altitude and have been thoroughly pleased with quality and fit. A much normal length. Also the jacket does have a light fleece type insulation in the enter lining.

Marmot M-series fabrics are designed for moving light and fast. They combine stretchable, water repellent, abrasion resistant and highly breathable shell materials with insulating buffer materials on the inside.
M2 shells are the ideal balance between weather resistance, breathability and thermal protection. They are appropriate for a wide range of aerobic use in moderate to cold conditions.
I bought the jacket to keep something light in my truck to wear later in the evening when it gets cooler. I have worn the jacket a few times in 40-50 degree weather over a t-shirt and it kept me comfortable. This is the first Marmot product I have purchased.
It is very warm and it is a good outer layer even in winter. It is perfect for spring weather and I love how it looks.
Love the jacket...that's all I have to say...
I've had this jacket for over a year now, and this is a decent choice for cool but not cold weather. I'm 5'11" and about 185 and the medium fits quite large on me, even the arm length. This isn't the only Marmot jacket I've got, but it fits much larger than any of my others, although I will agree with the other reviews in that it is tight under the arms.
It has no windstopping capability at all, but it does breathe very well so you don't easily get overheated in it.
Overall, I don't think I would recommend it because Marmot makes several other jackets that are better in fit and function.
I just got a medium (6'2" 190) and I have the same problem with the underarm pinch. The sleeve length is actually too long for me (-1 ape index), so I am worried about going to a L. The jacket also doesn't feel altogether too warm to me. It's not even to the low 30's and I can't imagine wearing this solo. I throw my Marmot shell over it and the pair keeps me fairly toasty. Wish I hadn't lost my old Marmot softshell... It was WAY warmer in the winter months..
This is a great jacket, but I am returning it because the under-arm area pinches when wearing a light-weight fleece under the jacket. I've noticed this problem with other softshell jackts by Marmot and other companies, so perhaps it's in the nature of the design. Again, while there is plenty of room throughout the rest of the jacket for layering, there simply is no space left under the arms.
