Montbell Alpine Light Down Parka -

The Mont Bell Alpine Light Down Parka gets roughly 10% lighter and softer without sacrificing durability! Functional mid-layer's flaunt characteristics essential for comfortable backcountry activity: optimized warmth to weight ratio and exceptional compressibility. The secret to the warmth of these garments not only relies on the high lofting 800 fill power goose down, but the inherent wind shedding ability of the silky 20-denier Ballistic Nylon shell. By blocking a large percentage of wind, a relatively light layer conserves the heat your body is naturally producing. Designing outdoor clothing with warmth to weight ratio in mind is great, but we also like to think the Alpine Light pieces succeed when it comes to warmth to dollar ratio.

When winter's weather freezes the hair off your chest, cancel your waxing appointment and wear the MontBell Men's Alpine Light Down Parka as a mid-layer for your ski sessions. With 800-fill down insulation warming your bones, you stay nice and toasty at the resort all day long. Its Ballistic shell and lining are wind-resistant, and it's durable enough to take out on hiking excursions in late fall and early spring. If the day starts to warm up, you can compress this jacket into its stuff sack, store it in your backpack, and whip it out again when the sun starts to set.

The Alpine features an insulated hood that cinches tightly across your head to seal out those blustery winds breezing down your body. Elastic cuffs softly seal out the cold and retain all that wonderful warmth along with the drawcord at the hem. And MontBell lined the hand-warmer pockets with fleece for a cozy feeling that warms up your numb digits on those mountains.

Montbell Alpine Light Down Parka Reviews:

Positive Reviews:

I researched and tried-out 4 other jackets before choosing this one. Other options included MH Nitrous, Rab Microlight, and Patagonia. Overall, this jacket was the best for everyday use and for keeping toasty at the belay station on multi pitch climbs
Pros
-WARM! I wear it around Boston in 25 F weather with just a t-shirt. I unzip it at the craig when I'm fully layered, because it heats up fast! It is noticeably warmer than the other lightweight jackets I tried.
-Much less expensive
-Tons of internal pocket space
-Good fit for an athletic frame
Cons
-Doesn't layer as well as the other jackets. The MontBell has greater loft than the others, making it just a bit difficult to stuff under a shell.
-Loses feathers more easily. Every day that I wear it, I notice a half-dozen feathers breaking free. Not sure what this means for the jacket's lifetime, but I might need to retire it a bit earlier than others.
I'm 6'1", 185 lbs with an athletic frame. I got a large, and it fits well all over

This jacket is really warm for the weight and price. It's an ideal backpacking jacket. My only beef is that it's too short. I wish I could have kept it but I had to return it based solely on this aspect. It's too bad because I loved it. I'm still giving it 5 stars because, unlike most reviewers, I am reviewing it based on warmth, comfort, style, weight, etc (which all are 5-star quality) instead of just how it fit my body type. I am 6'1" and 155 lbs.

Negative Reviews:

The jacket was too short - I'm 5'10" 155ibs, I ordered an medium, and it seemed to barely cover my waist. Also, I thought that it could'v been warmer. I'm considering ordering a large in the permafrost parka instead.
