You love down, but high humidity or permeating moisture can turn its fluffy warmth into a useless pile of fathers. Fear not, the Mountain Hardwear Nitrous Jacket uses water-resistant down to push back against the effects of moisture. The 800-fill down's Q Shield treatment infuses each fiber with a permanent water repellent to help maintain loft and warmth retention even in moist, damp conditions—you get the awesome warmth-to-weight ratio of down without its normal susceptibility to moisture.
Traditional horizontal baffling across the lightweight 30D ripstop holds the Q Shield down in place, and dual hem drawcords team up with full elastic cuffs to seal out cold air. Compressible design means the entire jacket fits neatly into one of the hand pockets so it's easy to haul and easy to pack.
Offering a high warmth to weight ratio, Mountain Hardwear's Nitrous Jacket features Q.Shield™ DOWN water resistant 800-fill down insulation in a non-hooded jacket style. Will retain warmth when wet from the inside out.

I bought the Nitrous a couple months ago, just as it started to get really cold here in IL. I am 6'7 /285lbs and bought the XXL as you might imagine. Jacket is the perfect length in the arms and torso, which is where most jackets fail me on fit. Its incredibly light but does a remarkable job blocking most of the wind. I would say its comfortable, with a long sleeve shirt under it, down to about 20-25 F especially if you cinch the waist cord- which is a definite plus on this jacket. I've been very impressed overall. Its my pretty much every day winter jacket now.
I was comparing this jacket to The North Face Thunder Micro and the North Face was the one I ended up keeping. Both are 800 fill but the Medium Thunder Micro fit my 5' 8" 150 pound frame just perfect. The Thunder Micro also had more pockets and just looked better.
The Shark grey is a good color but the zipper is BLAZE ORANGE in real life. The pictures don't do this obnoxious colored zipper any justice. The cuffs are the same blaze orange color. If the orange was a bit muted like a burnt orange, this jacket might have had a spot in my closet.
Nice light weight jacket with excellent weight to warmth ratio. Very packable. Over all fit is great and fairly true to size. I'd say the body of the jacket is good but the length is a little long for my taste. Though it does fit me well (I'm 6'4" and 190lbs).
This is a great jacket. Very lightweight, packable, and warm.
Warm, light, packable, perfect for cold winters!
