I have had quite a few hydration packs over the last few years including camelbak and Thor, and over time the bladders leaked or the bags physically fell apart. I just received my osprey raptor 10 a month ago and this is by far the best hydration pack I have ever owned. The bladder is plenty large enough for a multiple hour trail ride, and the tool pouch in the bottom is perfect for a spare tube, multi tool and a few tire levers. The pack has a few other compartments that allow you to put some extra gear in and the included helmet hanger is top notch. The bladder cap can be slightly finicky to get on but it has never given me any problems are leaked after tighten correctly. The bladder is also very easy to remove/install. I feel very comfortable with it loaded up and on my back Forman afternoon of riding. Stop looking at other bags and get this one. Top notch quality and performance.
This is a great mountain biking pack. It has a nice mesh backing allowing your back to breath. It also has a large reservoir allowing you to bring along plenty of water for that long ride. It only has room for your essential tools and snacks so if you are looking for a large pack with lots of room this isn't it. The storage is nicely organized though with sleeves for your pump and tools. The straps are minimal and not very padded, but this aides in keeping the weight down. I especially like the magnetic attachment for the hydration bite valve. It lets you get a quick sip then reattach the tube to the pack so it isn't swinging around hitting your in the face. The LidLock is also a nice touch to secure helmet when not in use. I would recommend it to any biker looking for a minimalist pack.
I bought this pack to go day hiking. The 3L reservoir is more than enough for my short hikes (10mi so far). In fact, filling up 100% with 3L is too heavy, and causes my shoulders to get sore from the weight. The straps are very thin, probably to let it breathe so it's not soaking wet with sweat. The weight is distributed on my hips, and my back doesn't really touch the pack, which is great for ventilation.
I like how compact everything is, I think it's just the right size for me. I usually use the left hip pocket to keep my Galaxy S3, but it's a tight fit, especially since I like to keep the hip straps really tight (external pocket becomes curved shaped).
I also love the magnetic bite valve, it's very convenient. I just wish they had put pockets on the should straps, then it would have been perfect.
I love all the technical details that Osprey includes on their products. The zippered pockets on the waist straps are great. Perfect for stashing the cell phone or energy essentials. The helmet strap is also genius. High quality product, super comfortable to wear, and lots of well thought out pockets and details.
Looking at this bag in detail, it was designed by a someone who rides. Every detail is well though out. This is the perfect MTB pack.
