The Arc'teryx S220 LT Harness takes minimalism to a whole new level by giving you all the features you need at a scant 220 grams. Arcteryx S220 LT Climbing Harness Rocks!

Arc'teryx S220 LT Climbing Harness

The Arc'teryx S220 LT climbing harness is incredibly lightweight and easy to use. I am a beginner climber and I looked at many different harness'. I have a lot of Arc'teryx clothing & gear so I included them in my research.

What I like a about the ArcT S220 LT harness was that it is lightweight, the no buckle leg loops, durability, no frills accessory items, and quality. It is a simple harness that meets most of my needs at this time. I climb primarily in the gym and will soon moving outdoors. The Arc'teryx S220 LT climbing harness has exceeded my expectations and I would recommend to climbers looking for gym harness or lightweight alternatives.

Off course with Arc'teryx products you pay a premium, but I am a firm believer you get what you pay for. The only reason for 4 stars is because the lack of a "chalk" bag loop. I also have a Arc'teryx C80 chalk bag and i has a belt which i like to use when bouldering.

I am 5'7, 32 inch waist, 165lbs and purchased a Medium. The harness appears to fit true to size.

Compact, lightweight, and convenient

I use this harness exclusively for gym climbing, and it is fits my needs perfectly in this respect. I commute by metro and bus, so since I am lugging so much stuff around on a daily basis, the fact that this compacts down to such a tiny package makes things so much easier. Climbing in it is a dream, it feels like I'm not wearing a harness at all; but at the same time, it feels durable, and it's decently comfortable to fall in. Icing on the cake: great vibrant colors.

That being said, the idea of climbing outdoors in this harness is enough to make me cringe. Yes, it is lightweight and barely-there, but the thought of cleaning anchors in this harness makes me want to die. It's fine for short hangs and gym falls, but I wouldn't want to take a whipper or hang for too long in this harness. Technically, the two gear loops would be enough to hold gear for outdoor sport climbing, but I'd be reluctant to hang more than 10 draws on this thing. There simply isn't enough material there to make the load comfortable.

A harness that has its place

Have maybe 80 days on this now. It's more versatile than I expected, mine has handled everything from toproping in the gym to leading 100 foot trad pitches with a full rack of cams.

The gear loops are larger than normal so the space lost by only having two is minimized. The gear loops wear well, I haven't had any problem with the lightweight leg webbing doing the 'bacon' wrinkle, the leg loops still look new minus some dirt.

While it's not made for multipitch trad, it can certainly handle long sport routes with 15-20 draws, lockers and anchors. For trad it should be fine for 1 pitch or so. Mulipitch I'd get the R275 with the extra storage or one of the more supple models.

Overall this is a workhorse with a lot more versatility than the advertisements suggest.

This harness is so light and packs so small I sometimes have to double check that I actually brought it with me when I'm heading out. It is super flat which I like as it sits nicely over my clothes and under my jackets and personally I love the bright colors. The leg loops are very minimalistic and I certainly wouldn't want to dog in this thing for hours or belay the super proj, but for quick burns on the climbs I'm interested in. This was the ticket. This was a replacement for my Hirundos which is officially hitting the old folks home and retiring.

okay, so this harness is SUPER light, and super compact, i use it for sport climbing and it has been great, but be sure you get the right size. try it on, make sure it fits right!! if it doesnt send it back and get a different size or a different harness. i mean not every harness is going to fit every person just right! it also took a few climbs for the foam or whatever to become comfy! but its an amazing harness for guym/sport or anything where you are only hanging in your harness for a short amount of time!

Sexy

Amazing Harness, takes about 2 or 3 falls to break in but once it does its super comfortable. I actually like the gear loops as they come I feel it distributes my weight closer to the wall on balancy climbs. Ive put 18+ draws on this harness and its still comfortable ( my BD harness would dig into my hips). It breathes super well, the only thing this is missing is a haul loop which can sometimes be useful but c'mon this harness is the Ferrari of sport climbing harnesses its all about the redpoint!

My friend bought this harness and while he doesn't like it for comfort reasons, I think its pretty nice. The seriously ventilated leg loops are nice. Its very light and very packable. My only complaint is that it doesn't have a haul loop. It leaves me wondering what discipline of climbing its intended for where I don't need a haul loop. Oh, and it fits exceptionally well with a backpack because of its low profile, lack of rear gear loops, and the aforementioned lack of haul loop.
Otherwise, I dig it.

Fell in love with this harness simply because of it's colors. Then loved it s even more after learning its weightlessness. This harness is great for indoor and outdoor sport climbs. Packs down greatly in the bag that comes with harness. Would recommend to anyone looking for a lightweight harness that wants to be able to carry enough quickdraws and a belay device out to the walls.

PERFECT FOR GYM CLIMBING

DO NOT dismiss this harness after your first try. This harness requires a good 4 days of climbing before it molds elegantly with your body. It works amazingly well for a super light gym/one pitch climb harness. The only downside to this harness would be the lack of a rear mini gear loop to clip your chalk bag. The simple solution is to use a chalk belt.
Climbzandbikes at REI on 12/12/2011

This is the first harness I ever purchased (I previously just rented them from the rock gym) and I love it! Its so light and it fits just how i needed it to. The leg loops fit snug and don't ride up or rack your crotch when you fall. The only bummer is that there is only 2 gear loops.

Negative Reviews:

Bought this harness to replace my current gym harness that had begun to show signs of wear. The first time weighted it the leg loops began to cut into my legs. I then let a few of my friends try it out and they were all not pleased with the comfort. It is super light which is nice, but for my use as a gym harness i'd prefer some comfort.

Nice and light, not too comfy

I tried this harness on at the store and was amazed by how small it folds down (about two tube socks rolled up). The innovation in the design and materials used were up to the Arcteryx standard.I put it on, it was light and non bulky. I noticed quickly that the gear loops are towards the front as opposed on the side. Not a fan of how the gear will dangle on my leg as I climb.I clipped into at carabiner and rope that was hung from the ceiling... NOOO BUENO. This harness gently cut into my back and the bottom of my rib cage. Even when I pushed the harness down a little, it was still very uncomfortable. It's only [$] and if you do very short climbs and are not hanging and resting your arms or belaying someone who is, this harness is "good" but not great.
aastigger at REI on 07/07/2011

The sizing chart on Arc'teryx' website states that a Medium will fit 31" - 34.5" waists, and that the ideal fit is with a one inch overlap in the ends of the waist belt. Well, my waist is 32.5" around, and a medium barely fits on me with a two inch GAP between the ends of the waist belt.
I suppose I'll be exchanging this for a large before I get a chance to climb in one, since I'm not about to climb with two inches of 1/2" webbing digging into my waist.. Good news is it looks great and is SUPER light. I look forward to getting the right size!
