"The Black Diamond Momentum AL Harness was my first climbing harness, so and it has a special place in my right ventricle. It is perfect for just starting out in the gym and getting days on the rock. The Momentum AL has the right amount of adjustability to work over a few layers or with stripped down workout clothing, and the waist band is wide and cushy enough that it wont dig into you sides so your 10th route will be just as comfy as the first. Plus with four gear loops you can carry enough of a rack to tackle longer trad routes."
"I was a pure beginner climber last year and have typically been doing only indoor climbing, and I could not have asked for a better starter harness. If you are a beginner and on a budget, the Black Diamond Momentum AL Harness is a great buy. I know it is totally comfortable because I've had tons of dyno falls and it catches me perfectly every time and does not hurt the legs at all. The Momentum includes a carrying net which is nice, and the standard gray color let me go crazy with color when picking out a new chalk bag. I am about 5'9"ish and weigh in at around 150, so I got a medium and it fits perfectly. It even provides enough room to comfortably handle some post thanksgiving pounds. All in all the Momentum is comfortable, lightweight, and available at a great price!"
Bringing all-season versatility to the Momentum, the Momentum AL by Black Diamond is designed with adjustable leg loops that let you add layers or adjust fit on the fly-perfect for ice climbing, multi-pitch routes or seasonal drift in waistline.

Black Diamond's Momentum AL Harness gives climbers of any discipline the same comfort, ventilation and durability that Black Diamond harnesses are known for, at a price fit for dirtbags and new climbers alike. Black Diamond's designers outfitted the Momentum AL with a traditional waistbelt buckle and trakFIT leg loop adjustment system, which uses a simple, secure slide adjuster to quickly and easily adjust the diameter of the leg loop and provide a wide range of fit. The waistbelt is built with our Dual Core Construction, which uses two slim bands of high-tensile webbing on the outer edges of the waistbelt and a venting OpenAir foam insert in the center to offer breathable, lightweight comfort without pressure points.

Took this harness out to the crag right after I got it and after my first outing in it, I am pleased to say I am relieved to have a decent harness finally. I bought this one to replace a sketchy looking budget Camp harness which was uncomfortable and more than a little worrisome.
This harness is perfectly comfortable, and fits like a glove. I had zero issues when loading the harness with my own weight on the wall, and I took some decent sized whippers and felt as cool as a cucumber. Adjusting the waist is a little cumbersome, but feels super secure afterwards. Not to many straps to get tangled in. 4 gear loops was a huge bonus. People have complained about the padding, which I have no idea where thats coming from. I barely noticed the tension of the straps on my legs and waist due to the significant padding around them. Belaying all day at the crag was not uncomfortable either.
Basically a bomber harness, for a killer price. I will keep coming back to this one for sure.
If you're a climber, you've heard the saying: if you don't know the history of your gear, don't climb on it. However, when I started getting into climbing, I didn't put much thought into this rule. I found this harness at a used gear shop and it looked to be in good condition, so I bought it. That fateful day was years ago, and I'm still climbing on this harness. I use it almost everyday, and take whippers on it weekly.
I was slightly worried about the age and amount of use that I've put into this harness, so I took it in to get it inspected. It passed with flying colors! No signs of wear on the straps, all gear loops in tact, and the buckles work as smoothly as any harness I've worn. To top it off, it's comfy.
Seriously, what more could you want?
This is BD's basic, all-around harness. For reference, I have a 33" waist, and a medium is almost too big. Next time I'll try a few different sizes and brands; this was just too good a deal to pass up.
The Good:
--Very affordable; I've never seen it go for more than $50
--Well padded, far more so than their alpine harnesses
--Reasonably sized gear loops and a haul loop in the back
The Bad:
--Leg loops (at least on mine) are a bit finicky to resize. It appears that newer models have addressed that.
This was the first harness I ever bought (in 2011) and it's still going strong. It's comfy, the gear loops are big enough for long sport routes, and it catches me when I fall. What more could I ask for?
This harness is safe and comfy. It is a great harness that will not be outdated as the climber reaches new levels. The adjustable leg loops are a must for anyone that climbs year round and want snug leg loops but want to be able to layer. The gear loops are sturdy, well placed and have a capacity that allow for multipitch trad climbing. Aside from safety, comfort is one of the most important aspects of a good harness and this is a good harness. One drawback is that it is a little heavier than some other harnesses out there but if you are that concerned about weight, cut your hair and you may make up the weight difference for much cheaper. Great buy.
I have used several different Black Diamond harnesses, and it is hard to beat this one on price and quality. The harness itself is easy to tighten on the waist and leg loops. I have taken a few 30 foot falls on this harness and it kept me comfortable and safe on each one. I have personally used it for both sport and trad climbing. Although it gets the job don with trad, ideally this harness should be used for top rope and sport climbing. This harness is for those that don't want to blow a lot of money but also don't want to compromise on quality.
When I bought this I wore a 32 size pant and the small was just big enough. I mean I only had maybe and inch of slack on the waist adjustment. I have since lost a bunch of weight and it fits perfect. I am a 120lbs women and with a 28 waist and its just right. Had I stayed 130 with a 32 waist i would have returned and got a size bigger just for comforts sake. The harness itself seems pretty durable and will be seeing a lot more action in warmer weather!
