Over the past 16 years of climbing I have owned many pairs of climbing shoes and these are right up there with the best. The downturn is good but not too much, the laces are great (when you pull to tighten they stay in place) the lined cowdura is comfortable (for climbing shoes) and the rubber is great. Overall these are great shoes, partly due to Zappos' great policies. What I mean by that is that had I bought these from another site I would have paid a fortune in shipping back and forth to get the right size. I wear street shoes in size 10 and usually size down a full size to get my preferred fit (crunched toes) for the performance I desire. I was looking for a slightly more comfortable fit with these so I could stand to have them on for longer periods of time so I ordered a 9½ and a 10 thinking there was no way I would fit the 10 but just to be safe got both sizes. Both were too small! I sent them back for a size 10½, still too small for what I was looking for (slightly bent toes). I would like to point out that the 10½ was the same physical (not tag) size as another pair of my climbing shoes which were a size 9. I finally settled on a size 11! I have never worn an 11 and it seems a bit absurd that I would fit an 11 in climbing shoes. That aside the shoes themselves are great. Lastly I have a slightly low volume foot and tying the laces tight yielded ridiculously long amounts of extra lace. I contacted 5.10 hoping for some shorter laces and was completely blown off. I was very disappointed that after paying as much as these shoes cost that they could not sacrifice a pair of laces to help make the overall fit better. So bottom line, great shoes, not so great sizing and not so great customer experience with 5.10. Zappos was perfect as always and I cannot praise their customer service team enough for helping me find the perfect pair of shoes.
Great shoe
This is one of the few shoes i bought in the same size as my street shoe. Its very comfortable at this size and i find that it has been very versatile. I mainly use them for bouldering and sport, however, they can still smear VERY well. so far they have never let me down, after 3 months i think they became very sensitive and i could really feel everything with pin point accuracy. i have noticed very little stretch since the day i bought them, they've always seemed overly comfortable to me for being an aggressive shoe. My old go to was the red anasazi moccasym, but these have replaced them.. finally. This shoe can be sized down to be a very aggressive tight fitting bouldering shoe or sized up to be a GREAT all-rounder, currently since mine are sized to fit they're an all-rounder, however, for my second pair i'll downsize one full size to use them primarily for bouldering. I have used these on some very glassy bouldering routes and where other friends were sketching off my shoes held firm. Best shoe that performs well above average in all my climbing ventures so far!!
I have owned a dozen kinds of Five Ten shoes over the past decade and these are the best I have had. The fit is comfortable right from the first wear without the absurd, and IMHO uncomfortable, amount of rubber they are putting on the upper around the toes these days. The mid-sole is really nicely flexible (but a little high-volume for me). The heel is low-volume as advertised and Five Ten has improved all their heels a lot in the past few years. Because of the lack of support, these are probably not the best choice for a beginner climber--perhaps try the Blackwing instead? Performance is fantastic for any terrain from slab to overhung. Your foot feels very nimble and unencumbered in this shoe. If you cannot climb it, it is you, not these shoes. Sizing comparisons: The following sizes seem to fit me: - 11 Anasazi Velcro - 11 Jet 7 - 11½ Quantum (these!) - 11½ Blackwing - 12-12½ Five Ten Team - 12-12½? Hornet
These shoes were tight on me at first. I wear 10.5 in street shoes, and I ended up with a 10.5 in these. I climb about every other day and have had these close to a month now and they still are very snug. My feet are a little wide. I try very hard not to smear, but the shoes seem to be disappearing fast. I'll probably need to get them resoled in a month or two.
Quantum makes for quality climbing shoe
I recently got this shoe and love it! It fits great, and I love the improved heel. It feels much more secure and I feel less likely to pop out. The downturned toe makes overhangs feel easy, but my only qualm with the product is that it takes a while to break in. After it's broken in though, get ready for a great shoe that's aggressive yet comfortable.
This shoe can do anything. I've climbed slabs, techincal vertical walls, and hard overhung bouldering. This is probably my favorite climbing shoes. I have two pairs. I size them a size larger than my Verde/VCS Anasazi or about one size smaller than my street shoes. It is a surprisingly comfortable shoe and will stretch about a half size. Skipping eyelets will help during the break in process.
Five Ten Quantum climbing shoes
These shoes are great! The rubber is soft enough that it doesn't feel like I'm standing on platforms, but hard enough to work great on small edges. The downturned toe makes them ideal for overhanging routes and the low volume heel fits perfectly for an extremely precise fit!
I love these shoes.
Glove fit...........high performance
I've never been the biggest fan of lace-ups....and like the 'quick and easy' of velcro. The Quantum changed that! This shoe immediately increased my confidence in steep/technical foot placements.....and actually improved my performance. Great on all terrain!! I highly recommend a pair to........well.......everyone!!
awsome shoes
these are best shoes that i have bought. these are my third pair i have bought. i havent found anything wrong with them. they are great all around shoes.
Best Lace-up
Great lace-up that fits like a glove!! Awesome all-around shoe, but it excels at techy face climbing. Another fantastic new shoe from Five Ten!
