Excellent Sunglasses

These are very nice sunglasses. I'm impressed with the overall quality, especially as to their optical clarity and color fidelity. One of the few sunglasses that don't make me feel disoriented with extended use. The leather side shields are wonderful when driving and any time the sun is low on the horizon.
Here are some things you ought to consider, however:
1) The blue mirroring is much heavier than the picture would have you believe. That, combined with the very round lenses, make these glasses look pretty wacky. Be prepared for steam-punk comments from passers by. If you want an understated look, look elsewhere.
2) The round lenses also make these glasses look over-sized on thin or pointed faces.
3) The lanyard that comes with the glasses is composed of scratchy metal hardware. This is pretty bone-headed when you're dealing with polycarbonate lenses. Also, the wrap-around earpieces limit your options as to where to attach a lanyard. I recommend purchasing an aftermarket elastic cord.
4) The plastic nosepiece tends to slide down my nose and is entirely non-adjustable. Get used to doing that cool Matrix one finger push-up act in between tennis volleys.

Best

I have used the Julbo Sherpa glasses daily for many years. I use 'em for driving, hiking, climbing, fishing, horseback, snowsports, etc. They are inexpensive, light weight, and stay on. The leather side shields are easily removable. I have tried more expensive shades, but these are the ones that satisfy.
The front coating does scratch and haze easily, and the rubber on the temple pieces will come loose with time, but they are inexpensive enough that I just get a fresh pair, and toss the old ones into a glovebox as spares. I only clip on the leather side guards for high altitude and/or snow as they block peripheral vision.
Friends, it just don't get no better :-) Steve from Colorado

Great for work

When a coworker tried them on she exclaimed, "They Work!" I told her I know thats why I wear them. They are the best you can get for the price. I have lost hundreds of dollars of sunglasses at work. I finally found a pair no one wants to steal. That is a plus in my book. They stay on my head when bent over also. For the money a TEN! Overall daily sunglasses a 7. I would recommend them for function but not really for fashion.

I'm going to buy several more pairs...

I had a pair of these years ago when I hiked the JMT. They are comfortable for hours and won't slip off when you look down.

I wish there was a way to keep sweat from dripping onto them (maybe a new product, eh?).

Our 14 year old son wants a pair, so we'll get those before our JMT trip this summer.

As we live on a sail boat, these sherpas are perfect for our sailing/surfing adventures also.

Finally Found Sunglasses I Love to Love

These Julbo are entry level but have the features I need and want in sunglasses, polarized lenses, side light blockers and comfortable ear pieces. My only complaint is that the lenses do scratch easily. When I buy these I buy several pairs because I know I'm going to get a scratch at some point that will put a pair out of service. I wish the lenses were as durable as my old Vuarnet lenses. In any case, i love these and buy them in bulk !!

Product has changed a bit

Company has changed earpieces so they are no longer adjustable - pro is that was a weak point where I always had past glasses of this model break. Con is that the earpieces now don't fit my small head and the ends dig into my head below my ear. Haven't figured out a way to reform the earpiece if possible without damaging glasses. Still like the overall design: they stay put well when active and the side shields help reduce blowing dust from my eyes.

very good sunglasses- will buy again

these glasses are designed to stay on your face. taking them on and off while driving is not easy. if your are wearing a hat you will need to take off your hat to get them on and off. i have gotten a lot of compliments on them.
they have been called "cyberpunk" & "steampunk" by a few people.

i do think they are great. was thinking of getting a second pair for fear that they will go out of production.

Fantastic all arounder!

Not all sunglasses stays almost unchanged in the market for 10+ years. Only great classics do. Sherpas are one of them.
If you want a fully reliable, comfortable, lightweight and resistant glasses for any snow sport, look no further. Sherpas has it all. Even more, they are affordable. I do own 125$ Julbo glasses as well but Sherpas are my faves. I ve worn out 2 pairs already and buying the 3rd one.
Thanks Julbo!.

nice glasses

great sun glasses: nice tint, styling, etc. only had them a few weeks but they show a lot of quality so I expect them to last in good shape for a long time. They're not polarized but that's OK. The ear loops work fine but the overall size at temples, ears & nose isn't quite right for me. I don't know if it's consistent but my Bolle cycling sunglasses fit perfectly for comparison.

Sherpa Spectron X5 - Smart looking. I wear them anytime the sun shines as well as snow covering. No squinting at all. When driving with the top down, the side shields reduce side wind on the eyes. I find the sides do not reduce side vision as I use mirrors extensively anyway. The appearance alone is a cut above the rest. I highly recommend them to replace 'ordinary' sunglasses.

Negative Reviews:

Almost women's glasses

Having already owned a pair of Julbo Drus glasses, I thought I'd give the Sherpa a try as a less expensive alternative. All in all, these glasses feel like they'd be better suited as womens glasses. They'll fit on the face but the shape of them decides to slip downward on your face. This makes it so that you're always uncomfortably tilting the glasses up and trying to make them contort and feel like they're almost breaking to make them fit right.

Neutral Reviews:

Not what I expected, but good!

I got these to replace my Julbo Tasmans that I had lost. Was hoping the Sherpa would be a similar size and fit, seeing as Julbo stopped making the Tasmans, which are my favorite sunglasses of all time. The Sherpas have a nice golden/brown tint that makes everything look like a golden sunset, and I like the larger lenses for coverage. The temples (the peices that curve around your ear) are NOT adjustable, and are too long for my head. They curve around well enough so the glasses don't fall off, I just miss the bendable temples of the Tasman. And the polarization... the Sherpas are not polarized, which is unfortunate.

Ok glasses

Optical clarity is very good with these and the tint is good for everyday wear. They fit snug due to the flexible earpieces and are comfortable. The only problem is that the sideshields do not fit snug with the frame and allow wind to come through so any activity dealing with wind (motorcycle, high wind dusty areas like desert) may be a problem. Also if you have dry eyes these are not for you.

Returned These

Wanted to like these glasses, but they were just too loose. Design seemed inclined to a tight fit, but without being able to mold the ear pieces, that couldn't happen. Could work great for someone with a very large head, who needs great eye protection for outdoor activities.
chilepastor at Campmor on 04/04/2011

Arrived scratched.Otherwise,nice glasses

these arrived with a scratch in the middle of one of the lenses. yes, i could send them back and have them replaced. after the time wasted and shipping cost, the great deal isn't that great. should have bought them at a local outfitter.
