Marmot Men's Ether DriClime

I use this jacket to run in the Midwest; it gets very cold and windy here in the winter and I don't want to be running in a winter coat. I've used it from the teens to the forties (Fahrenheit, obviously) with just a base layer underneath and its excellent design really shows. I don't overheat thanks to its lightness (under a pound, I think), pit vents, and unparalleled driclime wicking. The windbreaking nylon cuts through wind and is surprisingly resilient; it's ripstop. The hand warmer pockets are great for glove storage, and the hood can fit over a cap (or under a helmet), and it won't blow off if you zip it up all the way. The hood in this position does a great job of holding headphones in place. I used it ~4 times a week for the past month before needing to wash it (got stinky after a while). I haven't been able to test the DWR in the field yet, but holding the sleeves under the faucet has left my arms bone dry. Doesn't get wet; dries super fast even if it does (from inside OR out). I've found myself taking the jacket for a run even if I probably don't need it; it's so light I barely notice it if I have to wrap it around my waist. I'll definitely take it to the beach or any future hiking trips, and it will definitely be my mid layer on any skiing trips - the jacket's temp range is incredible, and I love it. Most useful garment I own. Fits true to size, but a little tight by design - works best when close to the body.

Love all the driclime stuff I've tried, and I've found this piece to be the most useful for me. For the price you can't go wrong with the basic Marmot windshirt (still got mine!), but if you want a few more bells and whistles like a waist draw cord, more pockets and a hood, this is a good move. Packs down small, lightweight, surprisingly warm, windproof, water-resistant and very, very breathable. Like the basic windshirt this a great mid-layer in a variety of temps and with the hood, pockets, etc., it's a very useful stand-alone jacket as well. I wear this thing on a regular basis about 3/4 of the year, and I have found it to be useful for running in extreme conditions.

This is versatile jacket. I use it under my shell and over a 200 merino baselayer for snowboading in CO. So far it has been great! It beets using a fleece midlayer as it is slippery and moves well with the base and shell. The hood is a bit of a pain in the ass. It has a tab to roll up and store it but it seems to loosen and get goofy. I just stuff it under itself and call it good. Plus it weighs so little. No reason not to bring it with you anytime you head out side.

I accumulated a bunch of gear for an excursion to Alaska and this turned out to be the best piece I brought. It was warm, wind proof, water proof, and light weight. The inner fleece made it cozy, the good was essential, and in love that you can stuff it into it's own chest pocket for easy storage. It comes out wrinkled tho, so if you're not down with that, don't use that feature. This coat is awesome.

This was to be my 2nd, because 1st is so great and this new one has hood. Best all around jacket I've ever owned. New one ordered same size as old one, but could barely zip new one while old accomodates multiple layers under.
Will probably try to find locally to check size before reordering, becaue I don't like paying return postage for something that appears sized wrong.

Have owned a driclime for several years and think it's the best so couldn't pass up ether on sale and hood is great idea. However, jacket too small in XL despite my meeting xl specs and old one being xl. Could barely zip over chest. Also note specs fail to note there are two zippered side pockets which are nice to have.

I was looking for a jacket that I could wear during work and not get too hot, but also something that I could put under and hardshell layer. This is perfect for both. It's super light, packs down well, and keeps you warm. Perfect by it's self for a light jacket or great for a base layer in the winter.
