$$$ but great hand-me-down for more than one boy

OR you can justify it knowing it will re-sell on Craigslist for a pretty penny, due to the North Face name. ;) I love this coat. Bought a medium for my 7 or 8 year-old who's now 10 and can still wear the shell alone as a rain coat. Could still wear the liner though the arms would be a bit short. After a few washes it maybe shrinks a little though barely (compared to how it fits when it's brand new). Important note about these coats: they run small. Size 14-16 is size large and re. this latest coat, my son was barely 10 (if that?) when I got it. A new size medium fit him nicely but I could tell it wouldn't be for long and again, the sleeves seemed a bit on the short side. The medium coat we got him two or three years ago is now being worn by his 6 year-old brother. It's a little roomy but not bad and the cuffs have velcro so you can tighten them at the proper length.
This coat is very versatile in that it can be just for cold dry days (liner), or for mild wet days (shell), or for both cold and wet meaning cold rainy day or else for snow sports (both). It's very well-made and durable and has good zippers. The elastic waist keeps snow out too and it's got all the pockets anyone could want - plus removable hood - and the shell keeps kids very dry. Has been great for snowboarding. It's worth a warning that the inside liner jacket may get permanently stained in the lighter-colored areas (in our case, red) if you don't wash it often or else pre-treat it properly. We never washed it much nor pre-treated it.
One final note: I got my 10 year-old the down jacket called the Aconcogua because on really cold days it's warmer than the padded non-down liner this Triclimate comes with...and it can zip in as a replacement for any of the Triclimate coats' liners. It wouldn't matter if your child always wears the shell with the liner (since the shell traps in the heat as well as keeps dry) but my kid for some reason loves to wear the liner without the shell a lot of the time. So since the down one wasn't cheap, what I'm doing this time - since North Face won't sell separate Triclimate shells by themselves (and their other shells don't allow for a zip-in liner) - is I'm buying a size L Triclimate jacket either greatly on sale somewhere or lightly used in order not to have to lose too much money buying essentially two liners. We'll zip the down jacket in the new shell and will sell the new liner or keep it as backup in case he loses the down one. Kind of a PITA but otherwise both jackets would be costing me about $260.00. No justifying that!

This jacket is great! I have a tri climate for adults and love it as well. For the price it can't be beat, I was tired of the cheapo jackets soaking thru during a wet snow. We've used it for snow angels, snow man making, downhill skiing, and walking to school. And when it warms up we'll just take out the liner and continue to use it. The glove clips at the end of the sleeves are really helpful too, not only will they not get lost but hanging there reminds my son to put em on as soon as he gets out in the cold. Unless they improve this model, I will most likely be buying another as soon as he out grows this one! Zappos had the best deal out there, I couldn't find it cheaper anywhere online or local.

The North Face has always been the trusted brand for winter gear in our home. The security of knowing my children are warm and comfortable all winter long makes it worth every penny. My children are very rough on their coats, snow pants, gloves, etc but with The North Face products I throw them in the washing machine and they always come out looking as good as new even when we have used them for a couple of years! This coat is exactly as expected. It runs true to size and quality. We love it!

This is a great coat.

You can not find a better coat for warmth. My husband has had one
for two years and I know how much he likes it. This one was for my
6 year old grandson, He is very happy with it. He says it keeps him
warmer than his other coat. Why can't you make these for women in
larger sizes like 1x or 2x. I'll bet you could sell a lot of them.

I am a big fan of The North Face for my whole family. I bought this jacket for my 6 year old grandson and it is a great jacket as I expected. I love the color and it runs true to size. He does not like puffer jackets and he is able to stay warm and comfortable at the same time. Easily machine washable.

Worth every penny

My twelve year old son says this coat keeps him warm without the discomfort of a heavy down filled coat. He swears that it is warm and he loves the removal vest. It is also water proof for those rainy and snowy days. It is also true to size and cover well below the waist for warmth. Excellent purchase.

warm, lightweight and great!

I ordered the medium for our 9yr old who is 4'4" and 64 lbs. He's of smaller build and this should last him for this winter and next. Thanks to the Heatseeker Aero technology the coat is warm but lightweight. It's nice to have something so warm, yet not as the heavy as the old down filled ski coats.

My boy loves this jacket. On a 50deg dry day he wears just the inner jacket. +45deg rainy days he wears just the outer shell. And of course snow days both jackets zipped into one. The best part is the inner jacket looks great by itself.
That's a lot of bang for your buck, thanks The North Face!

Bought this for my 14 year old son-he is 5' 6" but a very slim kid, XL was a good fit. He had previously had a Spyder, but this was a great deal and he likes the removable liner (doubles as a thin down jacket). It survived a winter camp out weekend with zero degree temps.

Runs a little small (sleeves are short) so I had to return and get the next size up. It's really light weight but warm and he loves the two jackets in one. Overall great purchase.
