I really like these pants. Thin but strong material. Nice colors as well. Lightweight. They are a skinnier design than most other hiking pants so there is not much room for your hips and tights to move. Climbing or making big steps would stretch this material and for me it would be uncomfortable to ascend a mountain in it. There is not much legroom around my tights and kind of feels like my skinny suits from Zara that I wear for work. I am 6'1" and 174lb. If you have a skinny hip and waist and not as strong legs a soccer player these would be great pants for the price. I bought the 34x32L and I am not sure if a 34x32 regular would have been better.
First thing, Columbia quality is fantastic. I started buying more Columbia product a few years ago and haven't regretted it. Got these pants for a hiking trip out west and they preformed! I am skinny so the pant was a great fit but I can see where people had issues with the fit. It was tight when sitting and the legs ride up but not uncomfortable. I like the amount of pockets- perfect amount. Super easy zip offs and somewhat easy to get back on. Great pant for hiking in hot weather that starts out with cold mornings. Best travel pant in my wardrobe-packs down small, quick drying, and can be casual going out or on the trail pant (Tusk was the color I got).
These are by far my favorite pants! The Silver Ridge ripstop material is a winner in my book. I wear it rock climbing, which is hard use, and no rips or holes. I've taken a single pair of these rock climbing atleast 100 times without issues. They've survived sliding down a 45 degree scree slope to escape a lightning storm, they've survived climbing steep 60 degree snow slopes, and they're still looking good enough to wear around town. Hands down the number one casual hiking pants out there! Rarely am I passionate enough about clothing to rate it this high.
I love these pants. I am 6'1 180/185 and I find that many of the cheaper outdoor pants are not cut very well for my body type. These are an exception. They fit perfectly. I also appreciate the zip feature as I often have cooler mornings but hot afternoons and evenings. I wish they were slightly better at repelling water, but I know that isnt what they were designed for so I dont have too much room to complain.
In addition to this, they have plenty of cargo space, and the fabric seems tough enough to me!
My husband bought these for our trip to Costa Rica. They were perfect. Light weight, wash well , dry quickly. (They were washed in the shower in our room, and were dry by morning.) Perfect for cool mornings and hot afternoons because they transition back and forth easily. He's also used them (tent) camping in the Black Hills. He loved them because they fit comfortably with the adjustable waist, and he loved all the pockets. Overall, a must have for the outdoors!
I gave these pants as a gift for a month long hike in Nepal and was informed that they were amazing, They truly were comfortable, ran true to size, easy to convert, have a durable zipper that does not seem to malfunction with dirt and grime, and the Nylon exterior handled abrasion wonderfully. The only negative I heard back about was that the shorts were on the short side with a 10 inch inseam.
I got these for my dad along with the backcountry goat tee. He likes wearing them together (the gravel color goes very nicely with the green in the t-shirt) He has been looking for a pair of convertibles for awhile and said the fabric on these were better quality than the ones he had been looking at in the store.
