The North Face designed the Freedom Insulated Pant with a relaxed fit that's right at home from the backcountry to the terrain park, and plenty of pocket space to take care of your odds and ends while you shred. A waterproof breathable shell provides storm protection while a layer of synthetic insulation keeps all your heat from escaping while you ride.
In order to hold off storms and keep water from getting to your skin, the Freedom pant starts with a tough nylon shell and a waterproof breathable HyVent 2L laminate. Then The North Face adds its 60g Heatseeker synthetic insulation to lock in warmth on sub-zero days. The pant's Chimney Vent cooling system, which funnels air from the StretchVent gaiters to the inner thigh vents, keeps things comfortable once the sun comes out to heat things up. Not to be outdone in the storage space department, the Freedom pant comes with two hand pockets and a large cargo pocket on the right thigh. To finish things off, The North Face hooked the pant up with reinforced kickpatches and edge guards to protect the pant from sharp ski edges and muddy parking lots.
The free-fitting North Face Freedom Mens Insulated Ski Pants offer a relaxed, contemporary fit cut generously through the seat, thighs, knees and cuff. Providing maximum mobility, flexibility and a smooth easy style you'll have the freedom to take these pants skiing or snowboarding. With Heatseeker Insulation, you'll find these pants to be highly compressible, extremely durable and are not bulky. The Freedom Insulated Pants are high-performance and designed to be durable, waterproof and breathable. Its HyVent 2L Foxfaille Shell utilizes a polyurethane coating for waterproof protection, moisture permeability and durability. When you're working up a sweat and need a little cooling, the Chimney Venting System is there for you dramatically improving air flow which reduces heat and humidity and greatly improves breathability so you have increased comfort and performance. One of the best ski pants out there packed with North Face's finest technology, the Freedom Mens Insulated Ski Pants are sure to keep you warm and comfortable every day on the mountain.

While made with the skier in mind, the Freedom Insulated Pant is great for any outdoor activity. The leg is flared enough to fit easily over ski boots without being so flared as to have a "bell-bottom" appearance. The kickpatches are colour matched to the pants, giving the Freedom Insulated Pant a more fashionable look without trading away functionality.
These pants are totally waterproof, even after rolling around in the snow with my children all afternoon.
While there are two large hand pockets and one large cargo pocket on these pants, I would have liked to have seen a little more storage. Perhaps a hidden pocket inside for id, valuables, etc.
I found these pants fit small. I would recommend going up one waist size, as they have hook-and-loop tabs on the sides to tighten down
the pants.
The material seems super tough and rugged, true to the North Face name but I've not had the chance to run these through the ringer...yet!
Perfect for skiing, hiking or just playing in the snow!
I have no doubt these pants are excellent for most winter sports... and I just wanted to add that they served me well during the few snowshoeing hikes I've done this winter thus far. They are insulated enough to keep me warm and dry... and didn't limit mobility. When things got a little warm during an outing, I was glad for the inner thigh vents. The gaiters, did seem kind of loose at first, but they were effective in keeping snow out. There are no back pockets, but i didn't find them lacking in storage space. These are not super tight pants, they are more relaxed... but not to the point where I felt I was swimming in them. Though there are built in adjustable waist tabs, I added a belt for better fit... my preference.
The North Face has a winner here.
Owned this pant for two years now, here's what you need to know.
-It's waterproof (fully taped seams+hyvent 2-Layer technology)
-It's comfortable
-It's durable
-On cold days you will need to layer
Are there better pants out there? Of course, you can spend an extra 1-2 hundred dollars and get a pant with 3-Layer goretex tech, but that's twice the price.

Bottom Line: Does the job, saves you cash, you won't be disappointed.
It hasn't gotten that cold yet in Northern New Jersey, but can definitely use these as my go-to rig for walking the dog at 6 AM. You can expect good NF quality on the material and fit. The front thigh pocket is perfect now for my phone and will be rad for any trail map when the time comes. Velcro & snaps to close up the front seems like a good idea to me as well.
